It's been an expensive week as my 3.9 only passed the mot on the third try due to failing the handbrake test by a couple of %.
My garage were initially stumped, but it now appears that the break requirements for the rolling road test are now very tight - and based on what a 7.5 should achieve. My 3.9 has an immaculate set of brakes (before attempt #2 the garage stripped the handbrake to be sure!) but they aren't as strong as those on a 7.5 as there is less weight to stop.
My garage/builders/mechanics ended up doing a legal work-around to boost my breaking power, but this problem is new to them so I expect other smaller boxes that have to take the 7.5 test to run into problems soon, so warn your garage when you take it in.
