Morning all :)

The time has unfortunately come that i have to sell my gorgeous 7.5t lorry (if anyones looking let me know ;) :D ) - If i wish to keep Paris (my gorgeous new foal!) i wont be able to afford to run such a large lorry and have 3 horses so it has to go. I am however getting a lovely new 3.9t built for me possibly by Equestrivan who are in Newbury.

So firstly can anyone recommend any other horsebox builders around the Southampton area (will drive up to an hour from here)? I have a decent budget (up to 18k inc VAT) but i obviously want to get as much as i can for my money and if i can get what i want cheaper then even better.

I know peoples views on smaller lorries however with a 3.9t the payload will be 1.7-1.8t depending on the final spec i decide on and it will be able to easily carry 2 large horses.

Personally I would go with Marlborough or Racemaster. The later is a bit more basic but the safety features/strength is unparalleled. Marlborough is up North but Racemaster is in Berkshire. Definitely worth at least a chat with each of theml. I have been stung THREE TIMES by horsebox builders on 3.5 tonne vans. Proceed with caution and only go by recommendation and references! Enjoy!

Marlborough are out of my price range for what i want unfortunately. I am not sure about Racemaster, will have a look, thank you. I need to have a 3.9 though not a 3.5 as i wont get my 2 horses in a 3.5t :)

Am excited about getting a new one built, but have to sell my old one first!!

Just an idea as I have never quite understood why people don't do this. But you can get vans up to 5 tonnes with long wheel bases that would give a much bigger payload.

I did my lorry training in a 4.7t van and even if you had added ramps, better flooring all the bits and bobs it still would have given better payload than a 3.5 or 3.9t van yet was very easy to drive.

Just a thought!

ETA: this is new but something like this -

i had a 3.5 built and had it upgraded to 3.9 - pushing my payload to 1.6 (was 1.2) - have a look at Equihunter and Bloomfields. A local man did mine - Freddie Gover who mainly specialised in 7.5s but but same quality and safety features into mine.
