Horse International magazine will soon be publishing three articles on the Holsteiner Verband's stallion approval and auction: a news story, an interview I conducted with Dr. Thomas Nissen, and an interview I conducted with Bo Kristoffersen. The articles may be previewed on my blog, accessible through the News page on www.morningside-stud.com

There is something for everyone in these articles: the role of TBs in sport horse breeding, what a top producer of sport horses looks for in 3-year-olds, etc.

very intersting article and 2 great interviews. interesting what Dr Nissen says about introducing tb and sf blood and concentrating mainly on the holstein region. looking through the list of stallions i noticed the cassiano x reichgraf x rasputin x tin rod xx and guessed it must have been the bravo mare when i scrolled up it was confirmed... wouldn't mind owning her!

has anyone seen the colts on paarden fokken for sale?
CARETINO x CASSINI I x CONTENDER holst stamm 1939
CORRADO I x LORD x RONALD holst stamm 730b
CASSINI II x CARETINO x CAPITOL I holst stamm 4847

they got my attention earlier.

Tom, do you know if there are any photos/videos of the stallions at the inspection? Have looked in all the obvious places, but no luck so far, and there are several of these young stallions that I would like to see more of ....

volatis, note that Dr. Nissen speaks as the breeding director of the studbook, so he views things from a POPULATION perspective. I wonder if he would have the same view if he himself were breeding a band of 5 mares!

Note that if every breeder did as Nissen would like the population of foals each year would be comprised of approximately 10% fillies. With the bad ones culled from the breeding population this would provide a very small but steady inflow of "blood" -- enough to give opportunities to contribute desired qualities but not enough to damage or diminsh the riding horse and jumper qualities in the population. The fact that there were only two half-bred stallions presented for approval, and not a single TB stallion, says something.

danydunne: I understand now.
