Bedolfa Adante, 3 yrs, he hasn't been touched since he was 6 months old, then last Tues he was carted down from Wales to me,
Today I caught him and tacked him up and worked him a little.
This pony is top class, might have sold him already!
Hopefully back him by the end of the week, I dont like hanging round lol!

Didn't like the lunge lines round his legs lol!

Then he calmed down again, and went really well, he's a quick learner!

Bryntaf Duke, 4 yrs, ''meant to be broken'' But he wasn't amused having a bit put in his mouth!!
So starting from the beginning!
He's a bit flinchy but he'll be fine by the end of the week

I admire your 'get going' attitude. The grey is lovely. I also like the idea you are in a field not an arena - just natural.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Thanks guys

Ruth, thanks

My horses aren't lucky enough to have a sandschool lol, I break and school all my horses in a field

Col, its attached to the head collars, as they have been running on 800 odd acres for 3/4 years they aren't used to being handled everyday
laugh.gif

They come to my voice and a bucket of feed, they whinny everytime they see me

Their getting there.

I dont hang around breaking, Im way too impatient for that lol! Ive had Shenkyn for about a month now but theres no rush with him as I own him,

Poohbear they came from a breeder in southwest Wales

Nice little ponies. i love welsh a's, so cute with lovely faces. Sorry but have to say that it looks like your saddle doesnt fit any of them, please dont back them in it.

no dont worry
wink.gif

I was waiting for that comment!
Its only a light little one to get them used to have something on their backs, you wouldn't catch me dead sitting on that
blush.gif

Ive got a nice little GP Stubben at home
wink.gif

Im glad I use that though, as I thought SHenkyn was going to throw himself on the floor, if he did that with my good saddle on, he would have had a short life

PMSL Teddy, I know Im small but I think Id struggle to sit on it let alone ride a just broken pony in it

Welsh sec A's are such quick learners!
Gimley (JM's) that I bought was broken in a couple of weeks, then hacked him for a couple months. Then schooled him, and then he had a very successful ridden showing season

I think the bigger they are the longer it takes, bigger brains lol!

i'm all for the quick way too *if* the horses seem to be keeping up with the work- imo going way too fast with these boys as none of them have a clue about the contact!

i broke my tb in under a week but never once did she look like i was dislocating her jaw with my lunging technique.

They only had the bit in for the 1st time yesterday (Duke and Shen) Then Adante today, they were left to walk about for a bit to get used to it.
My lunging technique works really well actually, and if you look at the reins, they are slack, he chose to open his mouth
wink.gif

Im quite capable in breaking in, have done quite a few, all successful,
The reason I long reined and lunged Shen is because when I bought him about a month ago, he was pretty wild, so put in a post and railed pen. He is fed twice daily, had ad lib hay, handled twice maybe 3 times a day, and he's still acting like a pleb, he KNOWS I wont hurt him, he's never been mis treated. So I thought bugger it, I took him out for a walk after I done this yesterday and he was like a new pony
laugh.gif

Today he was happy, he wasnt being a pansey lol!
So he actually needed that yesterday, its knocked some sense in to him
laugh.gif

Just going to take him out for walks for a min as like I said Im in no hurry to break him
wink.gif

Lovely ponies. Im sure they will find super homes quick. I don't like messing about- I like to get mine used to noises, lines banging etc too but I dont like mine to have such strong contact when long reining/lunging with both lines- Ponies need soft little mouths as they may not have strong/able riders and maybe they are just a snapshot in time but they are not flattering to you tbh.

Im happy for others to argue the other way etc- thats just my opinion other than that im sure they will work out well for you

Thanks JM, I gave them a whole week to settle! They are being fed twice a day, and having hay, loads of grass.
They should think themselves lucky

Jesus christ, that should be in the guiness book of records..... 25 mins!!!

Shadow monkey, your entitled your opinion
laugh.gif

Gimley was done exact same way, and you could slow him down with 2 fingers on each rein!
A 4 yr old child can control that pony
wink.gif

I broke him
wink.gif

Anyway IMO I think they all did bloody marvelous on their 1st attempt
grin.gif

Im really pleased with them

Thanks for the comment, I'll take it in to consideration

You should have seen Duke yesterday!
Wrapped right round them! Nearly fell over, he got over it, stood still, I un tangled him, carried on lovely
wink.gif

PMSL, on Saturday, I put a lead rope on the grey while he was eating.. Went off to poo pick about 10 mins later I was walking back over to him, he was running backwards away from the snake, then he spun and was galloping round the field like a nutter lol! He was doing the most beautiful trot, like Tommy!
bucking, kicking out etc, then a few mins later he stopped, put his head down and started eating.

I think its called Cadence??! Or is it Kadence??
