Our elderly cob had an unexplained bout of colic about 5 years ago. It was mid -July and we saw at tea-time that she was uncomfortable, in fact she was lying down in the field. We rang the vet ( just out of hours of course) and the newly qualified vet came out, gave her Buscopan and she seemed to perk up. We put her out the following day and she seemed ok until about the same time of day. This time the partner came out and gave her more Buscopan but could not find any real reason for the colic. She went out again the next morning and seemed ok, until tea-time. The partner came out again, said if this goes on I don't know what we are going to do and gave her more Buscopan. Fortunately this time the improvement continued and she is still with us, although completely retired following this episode. She did look poor for at least a month afterwards but we managed to build her up to go into the winter and she has been fine since. I hope yours is also a happy ending.
