3 legged foal

For me the line was crossed when he wasn't euthanized immediately at birth. How much discomfort is too much.
When you see an animal daily the slow decline is hard to spot. I will acknowledge I kept a horse too long as I believed there was "hope". I was also inexperienced in lame horses. This "rescue" must be far more experienced than I was.
Apart from money why keep him alive? Poor little mite I hope they end his suffering soon. And yes no matter how sweet and bright he looks he will be suffering. No dam, no freedom and discomfort are suffering for such a young foal.

Same, sadly.

I don't think people do this kind of thing for the animal's benefit, they do it to make themselves feel good.
Absolutely. Unfortunately I have seen this first hand at 'rescues.' A significant number of volunteers are seeking ego boosts and some weird conception of high social status because of what they do. Plus of course, the sicker and more heart wrenching they look the more the money pours in. I won't go on about the money, that is even more questionable in many instances. 🤬
From what I can gather his dam is not involved and he is being bucket fed. The poster has said multiple times they will put him down when he is no longer thriving.
They will keep it going to within an inch of it's life, regardless of pain level, for as long as the donations keep rolling in. Heartbreaking. 😢

This has popped up on my FB feed a lot recently too. That poor, poor foal, it makes me wince just seeing him stand let alone struggling to move around :-( Some of the comments on the posts (I try not to read them now) are just gobsmacking i.e. he doesn't realise that he hasn't got a good quality of life because this is all he has ever known and what do we know anyway. 'rescuer' has said he will be PTS if he 'struggles'. Well, look closer love, he's struggling now!! Do the right thing and let the poor little guy go. But I guess that wouldn't bring in any money...

Ugh don’t. I got into an argument with someone on Facebook about this youngster. It was shared on the ‘livestock born different’ group, and a commenter was suggesting that it “probably wouldn’t be up to doing any ridden work with an adult but could make a good kids pony” WT ACTUAL F. Honestly don’t ever think ive slapped my forehead so fast before.

I saw this and was horrified. For an animal that spends so long on its feet it's barbaric and, in my opinion, a violation of 4 of the 5 freedoms of animal welfare. It's plight is heartbreaking and their use of it self-serving. Utterly reprehensible behaviour by a rescue.

Just had a look at the page and I can’t find one negative comment but the ridiculous comments praising the rescue made me feel sick. I didn’t realise that the owner of the mare was going to put him down(quite rightly) and they “rescued him” to live an unnatural life. I find it all very sickening and the experts commenting say there is no reason to worry about laminitis !!! It’s scarey that this poor boy is still alive ..

They purge the negative ones.

The only good thing that can be said about this is at least the poor little devil has never known what it is to have two front legs.

It makes me feel very queasy.
