3 legged foal

This is cruel, abuse and makes me want to 😭 That poor foal should have been PTS at birth. He would not have survived in the wild.

I saw this originally, the owner of the mare was going to have him put down, the rescue heard about it and wanted to take the mare and foal, owner wouldn’t let mare go so the foal was then hand reared by the rescue. So, so wrong . Something else popped on my Facebook reel today an adult horse with a prosthetic leg from the knee down , made me feel very sad, poor horse

How does it survive in the herd? Like when they all hoon about, or when someone chases it?

I wonder if that’s why it’s hobbling down the hill away from the others. To get away.

This was my thought, herds usually ostracise obviously disabled/elderly horses naturally, because it would hamper herd safety to have them loitering around as predator bait.

It is therefore physically impossible to meet 2 of the 3 horse needs for this foal, freedom and friendship.

This horse should’ve been pts because it is just cruel to force him to endure a life of pain.

(Is it me or does he appear to have a growth defect/damage to his existing foreleg, as it is noticeably far shorter and wider than his hindlegs, not just in a ā€œfunky foalā€ way?)

This is the vet talking about him. It is odd they do not show him moving much. They have taught him to lay down to have his hooves trimmed. Im not sure about it all.
I feel its quite telling they don't have many vids of him moving as people could then see how much of an effort it is for him to get about and may well change their minds about what quality of life the poor guy has. I can't help but feel there is going to be a catastrophic breakdown of his front leg in the not too distant future which will mean they can raise more money for his ongoing vet care to 'save' him. (or I might just be a cynical bugger)
