My young lad was hooning round this morning and he came galloping up over the brow of the hill, then dropped back and was on 3 legs - his offside rear was held up for 3 or 4 strides, then he stopped - i ran over thinking oh my god broken leg - but got to him and there was nothing, full weight on it when he walked and he then proceeded to trot off.

I watched him for ages, and he was being a total pratt but then walked upto me again holding up the same leg.

~I called yo, whom came out and we trotted him up and down and again nothing - no heat - no swelling - just got back from yard again and still nothing and he is fully weight bearing and trotting sound

anyone any ideas?

Sometimes when I am running around, I suddenly get a slight muscle spasm around my hip or ankle, a couple of hobbily strides and then I am fine. As he is sound straight away, I am guessing this is what is hapening ti him!!
Your best bet is to assume that he his just taken a funny stride and jarred his leg a little... if there is no heat/swelling - I think just keep an eye on him, and obviously if his lameness perseveres then maybe talk to your vet!!

Ohh i am so hopeing for a locking stifle - monster has been on box/paddock rest since march and was just coming back into work ! have a direct debit to vets at the min - he has cost me a fortune, vet was only out on Thur to him, and is booked in for two weeks hence, due to lameness in the front offside AGHG horses!¬

Possible that he stung himself or stepped on something? I've certainly seen horses stand on their own heel/twist something/otherwise whack themselves, hop for a few strides then shake it off, just as we would do. If I hadn't been standing there, watching, I would never have known.
