Hi everyone! I'm in desperate need of help! I've taken on a three and a half year old TB x. He was orphaned at the age of 3 months and have no idea of what supplements, feeds or nutrients the foal was given. Can you suggest any feeds that I can slowly introduce to try give him as many nutrients as possible. Or maybe supplements.

Thank you!

Is there a reason you feel he requires extra nutrients? if he is generally healthy and has got to 3.5 years with no issues I would just treat him as any other young horse, he had 3 months on the mare which means he had a good start, keep feeding simple, plenty of fibre topped up by a broad spectrum supplement or balancer unless there is something specific that needs addressing.

I agree with the above unless you are dealing with an problem don't look for , just feed him like a normal young horse .

Thank you for your prompt reply! He is a healthy youngster and full of energy so there aren't any issues really. It is my first experience with a youngster. Shall I feed specific youngster feed? or any general feed will do?

He has done all of his significant growing so as he is generally fit and healthy just feed normal feed based on any work he is doing, keep it minimal if you are starting to break him you dont want to over feed and have him feeling so well he becomes difficult due to having too much energy.

I feed my youngsters (up to their second year) feed specifically for youngsters but then switch them over to 'normal' feed.

I think it is unlikely that feeding anything now would address any deficiencies he may have incurred as a foal.
