3 yr old girl riding 16.3!!

Amazing horse agreed..

Far to dangerous! I wouldn't ever let a child of that age lunge a horse of any size at all..

Riding any horse without a hat is just pain silly in my opinion. She's a great little rider but there's just to many risks that are not worth taking.

The fact she has no hat & is bouncing up every stride bothers me on a horse that size off lr, its an accident waiting to happen. A 3yr old cantering a horse off lr doesn't bother me in theory though.

the whole thing of it is just plain silly and dangerous, that little girl would get trampled if anything went pear shaped,i just cant get over what mum would let their 3 year old child do that!!

agree about it being a bit risky, but what a wee rider she is. better than a lot of adults i have seen. Can you imagine what a horsewoman she will be in the future. fab horse too, proper honest big thing.

Wow she is a great little rider bless her! I often think it weird that people let young kids off the lead rein at all, but this makes me think I may have underestimated their abilities.

No excuse for no hat mind, although that horse is just a lovely lovely thing.

She will be a fab rider but I question the wisdom of letting her do any of that!!

I find the riding (if wearing a hat) slightly less distressing than the lunging, kids will bounce well but squash even better. I found watching her lunge made my heart race, but that could be that I have a toddler myself!

I also agree that that is one lovely horse, and the girl is going to grow up as a natural around horses, but for goodness sake put a hat on the child - and personally, a body protector too.

Even the very best of horses can spook, and a 3 years old I think it's safe to say she's not immune from making a mistake either, be it with her balance, body language or to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. :(

It's how its done, not what they are actually doing that's the problem. I let my daughter lunge my 14.2 when she was that age, but, I was stood in the middle behind her just in case, same as I've seen others do with a safe horse & a child who wants to try.

Utterly stupid and irresponsible. I watched half with my hand over my mouth and the rest with it over my eyes. When the two of them were cantering you could see how little control the toddler had, the mare was in control and working mostly on voice commands i think, not the child. The horse is lovely but that video is just a pushy show off stupid mother showing how little regard she has for safety.

If the toddler falls off and is terribly injured or worse no doubt they will say but she rode that horse no problem til that day.

How could you not notice she had no hat on as she says in the blurb below and why would you put your beloved child in such potential danger.

Yes I am sure she will be a lovely little rider if she survives til adulthood!!!

Exactly. She was in no position to protect that child.

Feel this is very dangerous. The fact that she has no hat on, and the horse is 16.3 hands, it's a big height to fall from. She has no protection, and even though the horse is very responsive, as mentioned earlier it feels like an accident is waiting to happen! She seems a good little rider, but just so dangerous. Honestly!
I don't think my mum would ever let me at 3 years on a horse that big without any hat etc.
However, honestly cannot doubt how fantastic the mare is!

My daughter talked me into letting her canter on my 15 hand cob when she was 4. I trust my horse completely but she was on a lunge and wearing a hat and body protector. She loved it but I felt it was too much for her at the time so wouldn't do it again! Strangely though she much preferred cantering on my horse to trying it on her pony!

I think that mother in the video is completely insane, the thought of that child falling from that height is unbearable, and it would only need the horse to miss its footing for it to happen.

What an irresponsible idiot.........there was another horse in that sand school too............if shes gonna teach her 3 yr old to be around horses she should start with safety first, cannot understand why anyone would ever let a 3 yr old or any child ride around with no hat .......witnessed a very bad accident as a child, horse had heart attack and squashed young rider .........have very strong views now on stuff like this.

I think a child should wear a hat, but the mum comments she usually does, just a one off that it was not put on. My kids always, always wear a hat, the mum said the little girl had it in, but left it on the post, not long before.

The horse is well trained, the little girl is well taught, they are in a round yard, that horse would respond to the mum as well as the child, should anything go wrong, the horse would listen to the mum's cues, as it obviously has NH training.

You have to look at the situation, cannot see a problem with, although I expected to reading the post title.

I taught all my kids to ride in a similar controlled environment on a safe pony, under close supervision, well done mum. Would like to see where that little girl is at in a few years.

Absolutely fabulous horse. Cute, confident kid. But what about a hard hat for the little mite???

Also, why do I see so many american horses being lunged off what is merely an extended lead-rope? Can't be great for the horse's limbs.

How fantastic to have an opportunity like that at 3! I think she's a great little horsewoman.

:notamother: ;)

I saw a photo of a huge horse at a show wearing a cub saddle with a tot in his back.

Agreed, I always have a hat for that reason, not necessarily the horse but me.

If she had a hat and didn't 'lunge' it would be fine.
I think the size of the horse is completely irrelevant and it is in a contained space which IMO makes a huge difference.
Yes horses can spook but cars can mount pavements. Perhaps my attitude is too relaxed but ho hum there's no test to become a parent.

Nice little rider, lovely horse, but no hat no BP, not sensible, American, says it all.

Eh hem..... I'M American!!!

Its acceptable in some countries. Most people who ride Western don't wear hats if I recall correctly (someone can shout at me if I'm being stereotypical!)

Beautiful young rider, what a good way to learn. On a big steady horse that will be like sitting on an armchair, lolling about in trot and canter in big circles in a contained area, establishing balance and confidence.

Lunging was a bit iffy, but I've no problem with the riding.

Shocks us in the UK because we're a nation who have been brought up riding in helmets.

Having seen the damage an American killing herself over here due to refusing to put a helmet on (and then undoing it while out on a ride) did to my OHs family (completely her at fault not horse). I'm firmly in the camp that it's a stupid thing to do.

I'm not safety ott, and am very lax with most things, but a hat is one I won't falter on. If you are on your own horse in your own time and old enough, fine make that choice. But don't make it for a 3yo.

The actual riding I have no problem with and she's a good little rider.

The child may make a very good rider, though if they carry on like that I doubt she will see 5. Harsh but true. If the horse spooked or stumbled and she went flying off and hit the fence... well you know what could happen. It doesn't bare thinking about tbh.

There is a video on youtube of a small child jumping a huge grey horse, though I think he was wearing a hat.
