39 year old pony for sale :(

Poor wee thing - although looks well for the age - hard to believe really.

If only it wasn't a mare, and that size - ours would terrorise her, even the 28yo no doubt :(

Yet another responsible 'rescue' centre. Reason given for sale - can't afford to keep any longer. No vaccinations up to date.

How old can a mare be to have her first foal, thought it was under 15, but she was passed on as a failing brood mare, at 28!! bit old for a foal I'd imagine, I'm shocked they can't even keep her, seen as she costs a patch of grass! can't they let her live out her days there and sell a different pony? If only she was around when we were looking for a companion :( got a cheeky little shetland instead, love her to bits though :)

i know:( im really not one of the 'horse is for life' camp and have no problem selling horses on, but this is different, 39, poor girl:(

via a glass of vino i'm thinking pts but maybe the owners!!!! so sad will maybe regret this post 2morra but feel better for venting my feelings:mad:

Poor little thing, we have a 38 yr old gelding, id love to have her and put her with him so they could live out their days together but she couldn't /shouldn't do a 4 hour box journey.

But can you believe that you have to pay £10 just to apply as an interested person in that pony (or any other on the site) then another £50 if you're selected as the successful homer. That is a shocking amount of money! I can't see why you'd pay that - not when you can look at other horse ads for free?

As for the pony itself - personally at that age, either it would stay with me, or be PTS - I'd not want to pass on a pony that age. I do feel for the owners if they genuinely have issues where they cannot keep, but it's not a route I'd go down!

Where does it say it's a rescue centre?

I think it may be taken from the following at the bottom of the link

Relevant health or lameness issues
NB Wren is 39 years old (age on form only goes to 35) and therefore nearing the end of her life. When Wren came to us 11 years ago as a rescue, she had an abcess in one of her front feet. This has left her with a permanent weakness in the hoof which occasionally splits and which she doesn't like to stand on for too long when the farrier comes, but which is not actually any problem. She is very old! NB In filling in this form I realise that I have not kept injections up to date - I will remedy that asap.

Which is a bit different from what is given at the top of the page

...She was passed on to us as a failing brood mare and thus "surplus to requirements"...

However the 'Rescue Centre' bit is I believe a deduction from the first bit...hmmm

Poor little lady, I saw this earlier and it really tugged at my heartstrings, but she's too far from us :( It's not at all fair on her to pass her on at her age, poor thing. I can't see how she can possibly cost that much to keep for that to be the reason she needs to go. I hope she manages to find somewhere lovely to live out the rest of her days.

if it's any help, my pony was sold at age 35-ish (not by me, I was just loaning him) and even though he was retired and had suffered from colic in the past, he was bought by a lovely lady who kept him until the end of his days. I hope this little thing has a similar story, however unlikely that is.

Thats so sad. I had to have my old girly pts last year at the age of 42. I'd owned her for 26 years. She had given me so much over the years it was a privaledge to give her a happy retirement. She was never going anywhere.

Poor little mite :( don't really get the website though, an auction website that has horses you can "adopt"???
