Poor poor pony. Shorly she deserves better. She looks like such a sweet wee might. Wish I lived closer, had the money for another and could take on a mare I would take her on and give her the life she deserves. I realy hope she ends up in a good home who will look after her for the rest of her days.
I agree it's very sad and people should take responsibility for their horses in their old age, particularly one like this it would be far better to put the poor mare to sleep than unsettle her.
As for the website itself I've not read it in depth yet but I don't think it's a bad idea, if you are going to auction a horse surely it is better to do so like this than take it to an auction? Obviously it is down to how each individual does it though, I like to think people are seeing the horse in the flesh and bidding against each other and that the owners are being responsible about where they end up - oh for a perfect world!
I think the re-homing site is a good idea too, I posted not long ago about whether there was something like this out there. With all the rescue centres full and so many ponies needing homes a centralised place to advertise such ponies and where they take applications for them and do home checks seems like a good idea to me, it re-homes ponies direct from home to home rather than involving a rescue centre and unsettling the ponies more than is necessary.
What does concern me is it's unclear (though I've not read in great depth) exactly where the money they take goes. To advertise you pay £10 I think plus then a donation of no less than £50 when the pony is re-homed it would be nice for it to be clearer exactly what that money does, where it's going. They aren't a registered charity yet hopefully they will be if it continues but of course enough money needs to be got before they can do that. Will be watching the site with interest and hoping no more 39 year old ponies end up on it.
Pony is healthy. A good weight. Looks not to be diseased in the picture. So what is so disgusting about selling it? Like every sale there is a risk that the new owner will not treat the horse right. It's unlikely most people will want this horse tbh. Unless we go down the route of 'horses for life' and pts very horse rather than selling them no matter what age...
I wouldn't sell it but if I had no money, I might try and rehome.
Not acceptable, rehoming for any horse after eleven years would be stressful, but at 39, my boy is fifteen and i would not move him on for all the money in the world. Keep or pts, nothing else is good enough
