3yr olds/age classes and backing???

Mine is just about to have a nice long holiday until late spring. Hopefully this summer we will start some RC stuff, teach her to jump, my sister will do a little PC (and maybe a few days of pc camp) with her and then look to do some little unaff. comps in the autumn/winter in SJ and dressage with the *hope* of doing a few BYEH qualifiers in 2009. All nice and quiet and just generally continue her education at a pace that suits both of us. Certainly don't plan to do any age classes next year as imo she won't be ready.

Woody (my 16.2hh and a bit!!! boy) was broken over the summer and has been on holiday since sept. Did hack him this weekend, after over 2months off, just got on!!! such a good boy and very easy!!! Um, won't really be ridden again till xmas, then really over the weekends when i'm home and once or twice through the week.
Will aim for PAVO 4yo intro in June but if not ready won't even attempt it!!! Won't compete anywhere, prob till feb/march as still hasn't had shoes on yet, and need to re-teach how steering works!!! How bout u?

Mine was backed 2 months ago and is being ridden 3 times a week, doing a bit of light schooling and just started jumping, and he went out on the roads for the first time today. I'm hoping he's ready to jump a BN by spring and then age classes when they start next summer but he'll probably only go out jumping once a month once he's got going :-)

Mine was lightly backed in April, had summer off and then broken properly in Spetember.
Turned away end of October and will stay on holidays until at least March.
Aiming to have him ready to either sell or compete 4yo PAVO/BYEH by July/August time

Mine is with an event rider beong backed he's been with her 6 weeks, hacks out well, works sweetly in the school and has done trot poles. Well give him a pop this week then he's om hols till feb before working with byeh aim. He's loose jumped few times too

Mine was backed in the summer and is just coming back into work after 3 months holiday. She is now hacking out and in the spring I will start to re-introduce school work to her. I hope to do some 4 yr old BD classes on her next year so won't be jumping her till she is 5.

Ours have all been backed and put over a fence and hacked out. We've chosen the best 2 (ie the ones we want to keep as long term prospects) and they are back in the field until March. They will not really be doing the 4 year olds seriously as we prefer to take our time with the ones we're keeping, but they will do the 5 year olds etc. when they're older.

And the other ones are in, being schooled/hacked etc ready for the 4 year olds next year. They're ready to go out jumping on 1st jan to do BN as they are on the for sale list so they need to get out and get flashed about.

My last horse Rocky was backed at 3 turned away for the winter, when I brought him back into work as a 4 yr old I started jumping him almost straight away and by April he was jumping double clears in BN and Discovery.
I was going to do a 4 yr old class on him at Pyecombe but the jumps looked massive, far too much for a 4 yr old I thought! I think they were about 1.20m...

Mine was the last foal of her year (end of April) and is also very short. I'm using a flawed theory that using energy for work takes energy away from growing, so she's hardly doing anything!! She was backed in July for a week (twice a day though as she's a fairly over-confident little girl) and then was off till October. Again another couple of weeks - she'd not gone backwards at all in that time. However all we've done is walk and trot so far. I'm in no rush as she is brainy as they come and has never needed to be shown anything twice. Over christmas I'll get back on and probably give her a more intensive session, learning to canter etc.

Longer term plans are fairly fluid! I don't think mentally she will struggle but I really worry about pushing young horses physically. So chances are, we won't be competing till very late summer. She has however been over a few poles that were in the way and really didn't seem to care
