Just got back from competing for 4 days at the royal tournament at Melton Mowbray.
When we arrived we were so impressed by the lovely stables and free 'Easibed'bedding. We thought being at the a military base it would be very formal but it was very relaxed and friendly.
The 1 st class we did was the 'futures' cup and I believe there were 68 in the class, we were 44th to go and the ground by then was like a ploughed field. We had one down but there were only 5 clears so we waited thinking we might get a rossette but they only gave 6 and we weren't the fastest 4 faults so disappointed.
Then we went in the 'Princess Anne Cup' There were 78 entries and we were 72 to go.You can imagine what the ground was like. There were only 3 clears when it was my time to go ,so we were full of confidence,[that was short lived] He was going beautifully ,we had two fences left, a double and a spread, he took off at the parallel in did two strides in deep mud and was too far off ,he went to stop and my saddle slipped [I had on my stud girth which is elastic both sides] I slipped around him with the saddle and there was nothing I could do but dismount. RUBBISH.
Next day it was the team comp. I was first to go in my team and the team were 9th to go, so the ground wasn't too bad.We had 4 faults so quite pleased ,the other two had a clear and 8 faults ,so we thought we were 4th :but hey ho they missed us out the presentation so we went to ask and they said I had 8 time faults! No arguing with the military so RUBBISH.
They decided to have a puissance in the all weather arena at night ,so I thought 'why not, lets have a go' He hasn't really ever jumped a proper wall but he has done small ones with poles over. There was a warm up fence then a spread then the wall. There were only 7 in it [ I wonder why?] He cleared it lovely the first time at 3'9" Then it went up and he slid the top block off ,so we were out.RUBBISH.
Today was the derby and I thought 'well he does event so this will be fine' There was a stone wall ,a devils dyke , a spinney to jump in and out and a bank.We were 3 to go so the ground was good .He got to the stone wall and stopped, jumped it the second time, great through the spinney and the next two then got to the devils dyke and said NO.Eliminated.RUBBISH.
Well we never got a rossette and a bit disappointed but there's always another show,in fact just been told our Riding club horse trials qual.is still on Sunday, so lets try again.
SORRY ITS SO LONG!
