Hi there, we are about to break in my little shetland mare for my friends daughter, anyway, i'd like to do it properly and need a 4 inch mouthing bit with keys! Ive tried all the usual websites, saddlers etc and the smallest I can find is 4.5 which is far too big. Anyone know of anywhere that does them that small or alternatively have one I could buy/rent off them? Many thanks folks for your help xxx

the old idea of mouthing bits with keys is not really used as much now so you'd be doing nothing wrong to use a nice light sweet iron snaffle loosering which is what I have used for years on all my youngsters and they all go happily in that

I would't panic about not getting a keying bit now. Just find a nice happy mouth or sweet iron snaffle

I agree with seansheep - mouthing bits are a bit old fashioned (sorry for unintended pun) & a nice lightweight rubber or sweetiron would be much better for the pony.

I have two, not sure of the sizes, can measure them for you (both?)
We used one on Phantom (small mouth!) and just bought another for the sake of it lol.....
