i need to buy a trailer and a 4 x 4.. the two horses which will travel together are a 3/4 welsh 13.3h and chunky and a chunky 15.1 dales x. otto 16hh IDxTB would travel on his own in it. so what trailer and towing vehicle do i need to be looking at?

The easiest trailer to buy would be an ifor as they are readily availiable and hold their value well, you would be best off getting the 510 as you have a larger horse too. As for a vehicle, any of the larger long wheel base 4x4s are preferable, ie disco, jeep, nissan, mitsu and isuzu.
However I tow an equitrek with a nissan pick up/isuzu trooper so that is just my pov and was dealing with my budget!
I did have a fantastic book abaout travelling horses, had all the weight guidelines in it.

You'll need a proper 4x4 like the previous poster has said.... don't be tempted to buy a 'Toy' like the Rav, Suzuki etc as they don't have the weight & power to do the job safely.

As for a trailer, there are plenty of Ifors about but i prefer the Bateson Deauville, it's a great trailer, holds it's value very well, rides well behind the car & doesn't rattle! Oh & it takes up to 17h horses

would the jeep cherokee be up to the job or would it need to be the grand cherokee? i know a couple of people with cherokees and they have only said positive things about them (except parts are expensive) but dont tow what i would be towing horsewise , one has an aluminum box and the other an old rice trailer

I have an Ifor but found my boy travelled better with the partition out so he could spread himself better...he is a Welshie and chunky and just seemed crammed in with the partition...although I have a 505, so you may be ok with the 510. I have a Nissan Terrano diesel 2.7 and it is a fab tower.

I think it depends on the age, the older Cherokee (2002) has a kerbside weight of about 1800kg, whereas the later ones are about 2100kg, so the older ones have slightly less towing capacity

Ditto on the Terrano, I luv mine, 2.7 Td 5 door, been out today 65mph up the A50 for an hour, ride and then back again, it handles and does everything so confidently, easy to drive, seems to reverse the double Richardson trailer nicely, either that or Iv'e got better at reversing
