When I hack my little mare out with an Arab mare from our yard she goes bonkers. Starts little rears and little bronks. Anyone experienced this? I ride her through it, but can be rather dangerous on the road.

She only does it with Amber who normally leads.

Any advice for a cure would be much appreciated. :)

I'm going to lead her in her dually halter and try that. I wouldn't say it's napping, more competitiveness perhaps. I haven't tried her in front as I want her to learn she has to behave whatever her position during the hack.

Once before I lunged her but she still did it. It would seem this one mare is who she has the issue with. Thanks all

I'd rather my youngster was able to lead than follow.

You don't need to lead the whole way but if it's safer for her to be in front or along side for the road surely that would be the best idea and save the arguments for when it's safe to do so.

Thanks for the replies- I'll try alternating, I supposed fear is if at some point during a hack we have to wait behind, I want her to behave, not throw her weight around. She's happy to lead but Amber isnt a fan of going behind, so as my mare is still a baby I want her to be flexible and not end up just being the leader. She should behave regardless.

Perhaps it's her TB coming through, she wants to b a racer :)
