4 year old mare, can she improve in 7 months?

at my yard theres this 4 year old mare i ride for an hour every sat
she is a rescue from some people who sadly didnt know how to look after her!
we started backing her in october 2011. i have jumped very little on her about 1ft to 2ft.I have a picture of me jumping her about 1ft6 i think but shes jumping it at least 2ft6!!
iam hoping to loan her in September as my sister is off to uni!
my friend thinks daisy , the horse , wont be able to keep up with what i can do.
is it possible to get daisy more confident with jumping higher in 7 months? we do alot of flat work .
she is very keen and loves jumping when following or on her own!

Remember that she is still young and still growing. You don't want to overface her mentally or do too much with her too soon.

Is she just turned four or rising five?

iam not quite sure. i think she has turned four. i only work her a little as i know she is still learning!

Why does it have to have a deadline of 7 months to improve?

Slightly different situation but we bought a 5 year old last year that had done hardly any jumping, he would refuse poles on the floor or cat leap over them. Within a short time we were able to build his confidence and within 6 months he was happy popping over 3ft spreads without any issues, he's brave and bold and now full of confidence.

It can be done if you take it at the horses own pace, if you rush you will set it back and take longer to reach your goal in the long run. Each horse is different but 7 months of correct work is a long time with youngsters so a lot can change, not always for the better though!

its not a deadline , but i will be starting to full loan her in 7 months once i have done all my exams. but should i bring her on bit by bit? would that help her confidence when being ridden?

I can tell you my daughters cob could barely scramble a cross pole 3 months ago, he now goes clear on a course of 80, can jump a meter, fly's substantial sized cross country jumps and he's rising 6. The improvement in 3 months is dramatic, so yes this horse could do all you need in the future.

But as others have said, take it easy as they are still very young at 4

But please remember she is still quite a baby - I bought a 4 yr old last April, she was nearly 15hh, and now, nearly a year on she is nearly 15.2hh - she has also broadened and filled out, so don't forget your horse may still have maturing to do so you don't want to push her too hard.
