My 3 year old 40g Fal Bulldog would appear to be becoming unwaterproof. Not sure if it's actually leaking or if it's because the chest has become too big (velcro totally gone and it goes rather wide at the front with it unfastened) and water is leaching into the rug via the lining this way. Either way it's not standing up to rain very well at the moment!

So I'm looking for recommendations of decent rugs in this sort of weight that tend to hang onto their waterproofness for a few years at least! Probably not wanting to go with Fal again as they don't seem to fit him all that well across the chest as his m/w one isn't a great fit in this region either (unless they do any rugs that adjust at the chest). Premier equine seem to be a good fit on him and Amigos are ok as well. Ideally wanting something at least 1000 denier ripstop if I can as 600d ones seem to last a few months before getting killed! Ideally looking to spend no more than £80-100 (less than that would be great!)

If PE had their buster 40g in stock then I'd probably just buy that but not sure if any of the cheaper versions they do in a similar weight would be worth the money and even with a sale on they're not all THAT cheap!

*Sigh yes I've seen the typo in the title, would like to change it to "rug" but can't seem to find the button to do it :(*

Hi I have a pe buster 40g for my guys. They are chunky and they are a great fit on them but they aren't as waterproof as they used to be. That might be my fault as I have washed them a lot but they do get re profed after and one of them is about 4 years old now. I was lucky when I got mine as they had a big sale on as I can't justify the full price for them!

I was needing a 100 g rug so I have ordered a rug from swish equestrian. It has a 1200 denier and was the bargain price of £52!! They look very similar to pe rugs but a lot cheaper. They are meant to be deep and although this is my first rug of theirs they have good reviews. It came the next day to.Here's the link:

I've had both PE 40g (bought when their sale meant sale for £40) and a Swish 50g. If you swapped the labels I think you'd struggle to tell the difference.

Interesting, I find my Swish rug is not very good quality. It's not very waterproof and the material is very thin and flimsy (both my Rhino and Swish are 1200D but the sewing needle is really hard to get through the Rhino's material while the Swish is like butter).

Ruggles do a 100g and they are brilliant. I have had them on my ponies for five years now and no leaks. I bought one for my cob this year and it fits lovely. They often have a free postage weekend so that's when I get them.

I've ordered a Swish 50g one in the end and will see how I get on with it. I did look at the Ruggles ones but I had one of their rugs about 5 yrs ago and the quality didn't impress (I had to sew one of the belly straps back on a few times as it was poorly done in the first place, leg straps broke easily and rug was a bit of an odd shape in general tbh and it stopped being waterproof after 2 years despite me reproofing it when I noticed it was leaking). They may have improved since then but it's put me off having one of theirs.
