does anybody recomend a good 400g combo turnout for around £100 to fit a thoroughbred? i just bought (and have to return) the amigo bravo as am appalled at the fitting. bought a 6'6 as it measures up as a 6'3 but way too big in neck and quaters. never had a problem with amigo before! he already has the mark todd 425g and i have an old loveson allpro which is not a great fit as rubs his shoulders but does an emergency rug. i would love a rambo but there is no way i can afford it plus will just get caked in mud so dont really see the point!! if anyone can help it will be appreciated.

thanks

thanks not heavy enough. i have a couple of 360g rugs but wanted heavier plus its detachable neck and i was after fixed. nice looking rug though.

Shires Stormcheeta - fantastic rug. If you're lucky you might find one for approx £100 in the sales. I have one that fit my chunky NH TB nicely, but it does fit the slimmer built anglo with the front straps adjusted to their smallest settings.

i must say the mark todd is lovely. i did used to buy the cheaper rugs hence the allpro which was £39 i think though noticed they are about £50 now!! in comparison the dearer rugs are worth the money. i have though about pe rugs will have to look for sale prices same with shires thanks

Does your mark Todd fit? I have bought my mare a mark Todd deluxe combo and it is really warm and toasty. It was just over £100 and I think it is 450 g. Very pleased with it.

Yeah mark todd fits. On tighest across the chest though. I do think its quite heavy rug but he is toasty in it. I have the brown version and i friend got the navy one! Masta are too deep in the neck have tried standard and combos on. Premier equine sold out of size in the combo grr!! Looked at shires and rug is metallic red!! Not very nice colour in my opinion esp for a bright bay lol

My TB is in a JHL combo heavyweight which Is a good fit for him. It was around £100 mark I think. It's very light to put on but is a 400g fill. Might b worth a look

Shires Tempest combo, this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60-shires...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item3cd8647b36

I have it in the 300g and 400g and this version is the stronger material one being 2000 denier. I need the higher denier outer for my boy as he plays and not many rugs stand up to it but this has been fantasic for the money. I found it online when I was buying for a bit less than that by googling it.

Do the shires combos come up deep in neck only he is narrow shouldered. Bought him a tempest lw standard neck a few years ago and was too deep round neck. Thanks

Premier Equine - used to fit my old TB great and are the best quality rugs in my opinion. Their sale has just started so they have a number of their 450G rugs at £80-£100 on the website at the moment.

My boys in between sizes and I had to up a size so it fit round the chest as I didnt think they were generous in the chest area. Mine seems to fit quite high up his shoulder if you know what I mean, a bit like the PE rugs, which wont go near him. I wouldnt say my horse has a deep chest, hes quite narrow but has a big shoulder. He fits Rambos well but bought this as it was so much cheeper and havent been dissapointed. My friend has the standard versions for her cob and PBA and they been fine.

Ditto with the Shires Stormcheeta rug!! I bought my mare the 400gm one and it's a beautiful rug and still in immaculate condition as she only wore it twice - if the weather was bad enough for 400gm's of rug she generally refused to leave her stable lol.

It's a shame you're after the combo as I would gladly sell it.

I bought my skinny WB a 7ft Mark Todd stable rug and it's really tight on the chest area and his arse sticks out, so not a true 7ft. Bought a premier equine last yr for 2 of mine & they sweated up really badly in them, and the elastic in the neck meant when they rolled the neck moved down and stayed down due to the elastic!! Also both lost their manes in clump loads within 2 or 3 days - I had them on ebay before they were dirty ( it was snowing so looked clean).

Swish rugs are ok, but not 400

Weatherbeeta not keen on them anymore and shires, masts seem to rip easy!!

Try under rugs. Mine has a Rambo Duo but my mare has a 100g Amigo with the liners underneath. Both detactable necks and can make up to 200g, 300g or 400g. The Amigo was about £80.00 and the liners are about £40.00 each.

I do have this rug but the neck cover doesnt go warm enough!! Prefer a combo to detach neck for winter. I do use stable rugs underneath if needed but they always get wet in rain. He such a pansy and it took me ages to find the right feed to maintain condition.
