I am after a 400g or more turnout with neck (pref combo) for my seriously poor doer this winter incase it gets as chilly as last winter! Anyone got any rug suggestions - the only one I can find is the rambo supreme super heavy (with super heavy price tag!)

worth the money though. an excellent rug. tho hopefully wont need this weight for next few months!! you get what you pay for and they do old their value second hand.

Yes, he's still out in his fly rug because it's been lovely and hot! Certainly won't need it for a while yet!

Shires are no good - they are not big enough around the neck for him. I swear shires are designed for horses who's neck extend vertically out of their backs

Weatherbeeta Taka.

I have one & it's brilliant. I have an Irish TB & it fits perfectly!

Quite a bit cheaper than the Rambo

If you cant find a 400g turnout rug in your price range could you not put a stable under a turnout rug you already have. Thats what I would do.

Mark Todd do one, or used to. I bought one for my last horse. It was a full neck with a tail cover, really nice rug

They're not cheap though, but I got mine half price at Burghley.

Keep an eye on sites like Equestrian Clearance.

I use a Premier Equine Winterbuster (which is 450g) on my Tb who lives out 24/7 and doesn't like to get cold.
They are very deep, and the necks fit nicely up behind their ears (you can get combo or detachable necks).
Or if you want to keep your rug washing costs down, you could buy a nylon lined stable rug to put underneath a turnout (I have used the Amigo ones for this, just get a couple of loops of string and tie the fillet strings to the turnout fillet strings or leg strap catches).

Gee Tec (i think it's called) has one - lots on ebay. VERY high denier and I've got a lighter version and it's deep with a decent neck on it.

AND it's less than #70

I'd buy a less weighted one (is it 360g) but get an under rug too. It will give you super warmth during the winter but also allow for a little less heat when its less cold or coming into spring. The underrugs are good as they are made to be a bit shorter in the depth which means they don't stick out the bottom of the turnout rug.

I'd vote for Shires- I think that their rugs are super and fit really well. the stormcheeta combo is a lovely rug- if you want a 400g turnout it's defo worth a look!

When the weather gets really cold, I put a very warm fleece bodysuit under my mare's turnout rug. You can get them from Dress Circle and they're brilliant.
They cost about £80 but you don't need a heavier turnout then.
