I can NOT believe what I did today. I have waited 463 days for this... today, Maiden and I went on our first rehab walk

I know this should be in PG but please forgive me for wanting the whole world to share!

Taken on 6th June 2007 (closest I have to today's date) - Maiden was being allowed more turnout gradually:

Now look at the beast! Waiting for Berlin to get back from his hack:

Vaguely groomed:

Then Maiden took me for our first 10 minute walk (yes, she towed me down the track and back

Walking purposefully home!

And a few videos, although poor quality - apart from the blip in the third one at the beginning (stood on a stone, she's still barefoot) and the fact that my friend can't walk a horse in a straight line (

) how do you all think Maiden is looking soundness-wise? She's always been short-striding, but IMO she doesn't actually look lame any more...?

may I ask what has been the matter with her?

Beginning of Feb last year she tore her deep digital flexor tendon in the right fore, and there were some cartilage problems in there too. I was told to shoot her. I told that vet to *** off! She is the happiest person I know, and she loved going on her first walk. She was supposed to start walking at the beginning of April but through various issues it's taken longer than expected. Every time I plan something it goes wrong, so tonight I just dragged her out of her field and went for a walk before she realised

I honestly never thought I'd get to the stage where she was sound enough to walk out. Next step, keeping her sound long enough for me to start riding her again!

You are lucky, my mare did the same thing and she is still lame. I am very pessimistic about her chances of riding again, but she has just produced a fantastic foal. I dont mind if she is an expensive lawnmower if she is happy.

Good luck.

She looks great - that's some grass belly she's got there! LOL!

She looks very interested in her walk. I don't know how you have had such patience. Well done and I really hope for you that she comes 'good' with time.

She had to stay on box rest for 463 days!?!?!?!?!?!

[/ QUOTE ]
No... her injury needed more rest than an SDFT tear and she has been out in the field for the last year. I'm not stupid enough to be willing to keep her on box rest for that long...

Thanks everyone, I am very pleased with her and believe it or not, she was still sound this morning!

I'm taking her out this evening again, she has about two hours to make herself lame as an excuse/protest
