I have a wonderful Nissan Terrano, but its reaching time to change it and they have stopped making them... so started looking at alternatives, but lots of the newer 4WD seem quite light, or at least the ones in my budget are.. Has anyone found a list of 4WD towing weights without going back to the manufacturers individual websites. I have a 505 trailer and a 15.1 cob if that of relevance....

Thanks

Thanks, TB... I had obviously been googling the wrong words or something - couldn't find anything.
DS - how would you compare the two? (towing weight aside) I didn't think I wanted anything as physically large as a Discovery, or a double cab, with tray, like the L200's.... It would have to carry couple of dogs, tack, feed etc, but also be main car for work, occasionally covering good distances.

a smaller 4wd with a decent towing weights is the kia sorrento.

i have a toyota hilux which is a fab vehicle, but yeh, its huge, lol.Im a teacher and its my day to day vehicle, doesnt bother me, although I do get comments, lol. What about a Defender?they have a good towing weight, or a SWB isuzu trooper or mitsubishi shogun?

i really rate my rexton - def worth considering = and not a big as the land cruisers/range rovers etc but still 3.5t tow capacity - and cheap as chips :D

A Defender would be my first choice ( but probably for nostalgic reasons as we had them on farm!), but you don't seem to get much for £6-7k with them
Will research Sorento - thanks, I can't picture what they are.
I was mentioning size as I have an idea that physical size is linked to fuel consumption, which of course may not always be true...

I've given up on the disco and defender... they are quite expensive, and they rust so easily! We've just bought a diahatsu fourtrack and it's great. It's a more modern engine than the disco/defender and a little bit bigger. Yes, its a little thirstier, but it runs like a dream and easily copes with 2 big horses in a heavy wooden trailer on our hills!

Liking the Sorrento information, but they hold their value too... Just goes to show, if something is good at its job, then it holds its value, and keeping the cliche thing...I guess you get what you pay for....
Rexton has towing weight of 3200kg - which is good but they seem a bit new for my budget....

HoHum looks like basically I need more money....

HoHum... no, they stopped making them in 2001 i think, but they are well well worth the money for an older one. Ours is P reg, has about 120k on the clock and is sweet as.

the trick is to find one that hasn't been a farm vehicle but a runabout. They'll be a bit more for their age, but will last a lot longer as they'll have been looked after better.
