My mums just bought a 4x4 pajero (1st ever jeep) (shows here i come lol) and shes never driven an automatic before.

When your waiting at lights or a traffic jam, what should you put the jeep into, Park or neutral or something else?

probally a really easy question but shes not got any idea.

It stays in drive but keep foot on brake. I watch people who drive automatics lol. Probs watch people who drive wrong

mum just leaves it in drive with her foot on the brake, If you take your foot off the brake it will roll forward.

I suppose if you are stuck in a static trafic jam then id probably stick it in neutral with the hand brake on but other wise nope.

When moving slowly keep in drive

If at a full stop like traffic lights, put in neutral. If the brake pads are hot and you keep them pressed on they can damage the discs

But if you put it into neutral and are on a hill and DONT have your foot on the brake then you will roll! Personally I just keep mine in drive at all times, traffic lights take no time to change.

If its momentary, then hold it on the brakes, if its for any length of time, then stick it in neutral, agree with cotswold SJ on the brakes thing. It will also heat up the transmision fluid which isnt a good thing to do if climbing hills on hot days.

The word is apprently mexican slang, not spanish BTW.

Rolls Royce also made a similar mistake when they named their car the Silver Mist, as did the manufacturers of Body Mist body spray, and a few others as a direct translation in German for Mist is Sh!t

I had to laugh in the doctors surgery when they called a young girl in with her baby who was called 'misty blue'

Mty friend always keeps hers in drive obv unless she is parking up. But had no problems with her cars, i did hear the brakes grinding as she was releasing her foot a little but not all the way so she would ruin her car, but dont think shes too botherd to be honest. Spoilt brat that she is.

The funny thing is that Pajero is the continental brand name for the cars in Asia and Europe. The only place they are marketed as the Shogun is in the UK.

They have just released the next generation of Pajeros in Japan, and are still keeping the name, so I don't think it fusses Mitsubishi either way.

I've always stuck car in neutral at lights, but bloke we bought Disco from said it is better for the engine to leave it in drive with foot on brake. Can't remember what the advantage is supposed to be though! I am worried about my foot slipping off the brake so that is why I use neutral, just a habit.

I have never used neutral on my Auto 4x4s

If I find myself in non-moving traffic (as in a traffic jam) I usually put it in park - is that wrong?

I do the same as you Weezy although tbh I'm lazy and only really do that in traffic jams rather than lights...
