Hi!

Hubby and I are looking for another car due to a change in hubbys work and I have managed to convince him to get a 4x4 so we can get a horse trailer! Woo hoo!

However the more I look at the options the more confused Im getting as what to get/ what not to get. Some reviews are good, then bad.... grrrrr. So I thought the best way would be to ask 'horsey' people with experience!

Need to transport a 12hh dartmoor and a 15hh connemara x. Only to go out a few times a year to local shows and the beach.

What 4x4s do you have/ recommend?

Many thanks in advance

Charlene

Have a search on here - there are lots of threads on vehicles for trailers recently.

I used to have a Shogun LWB 3.2, and now use an L200 which I love. We also have a Range Rover Sport HSE, but that's the OH's and he's not so keen on me using it to tow - not because of the actual act of towing, but because of the devastation of mess that I leave behind and inability to clean the inside when I've finished !!

i've currently got a ssangyong rexton and love it for towing - before i had a trooper and also liked it a lot :)
imho - go for a tow capacilty of 3.5t to be really safe towing - i get a bit nervous seeing the combinations where the tow capacity it really stretched....

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I recently bought a long wheel base Vauxhall Monterey, which is essentially an Isuzu Trooper with a Vauxhall badge. I'm new to towing, too, and a lot of people on here recommended the Trooper. I have been totally confident pulling with it and would highly recommend looking at them, but make sure you get the 3.1 diesel and check if it's a newer one as they were recalled for some reason (I think it may have been the brakes?).

Another option would be a Shogun/Pajero as that was one of the others that a few people thought were good. A lady on my yard has one and says it's very good to tow with.

If you can afford it, the Landrover Discovery is good according to a few people I know but they can be pricey to run and a few people have mentioned the clutches go on them. Or even better, get a Defender if you can afford it and want something to tow a mountain with (as long as you're not expecting luxury inside ;)).
