4x4 help please - need my mind made up!

As the title says really. Anyone who knows me knows I can't buy anything without looking at all the options (about 10 times) and then getting everyone's opinion on the matter.
So have narrowed it down to two now - please don't add any more to the pot as it has taken a few months to get to this stage

Kia Sorrento - 55 plate, fabric seats, no tow bar (would need that fitting), miles = 13K-ish price £12995(no idea if this is negotiable but they did offer me £1000 for my clio). Downside to this appears to be my lack of viewing out of the back window, parking is not my best point but I could try harder!

Shogun Sport - 55 plate, leather seats, tow bar included, miles = 9k-ish price £13695 (slightly negotiable according to sales guy and again would do me part exchange on the clio but they haven't seen it yet so can't offer price). Can see very well out of the back window.

We haven't bought a trailer either yet but would be looking at something to fit 2x 16.2hh horses (possibly Ifor or Bateson)although we only own one 16hh horse at present, we want to look to the future and be a bit prepared for a change!

Any opinions welcome on either of these two vehicles, thank you

we bought neaarly new Landy yesterday - get to pick it up on Wednesday! Excellent for towing

checked the website and if you get an auto Kia itll tow upto 3500kg http://www.kia.co.uk/sorentotechnicalspecification.asp whereas the Shogun sport has a capacity of 2800kg http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/shogunsport/specifications.asp (both would be ok though if you were only going to tow Molly with a trailer - just better with a greater capacity when you get OH a horse!).
 
go for the shogun sport - we have a 54 plate and its been wonderful, tows our Ifor 505 perfectly, and is so smart, posh nobs in newmarket mistook us for rich land owners!!!! (long story lol!)
 
I would love your Equitrek but think OH would definitely disown me then and not sure I'd want to live in your Equitrk on my drive all year round when he did this - remember he is a very stingy scottish bloke (sorry scottish people!) and I've just made him buy me a wow saddle....plus I have recently realised I'm not keen on the jumping flaps afterall so he is now having to fork out for the dressage ones

However, if he came to the decision on his own that he NEEDED an Equiktrek then who am I to argue?!!

I have a Mitsubishi, but mine is the Pajero LWB (Auto), they tow very well & are very smooth......they are quite thirsty. Sorry I don't know anything about the kia but would imagibe the Mitsubishi would hold it's vale better?

As for trailers...Bateson every time....much better build quality, design & smother ride than almost any other.

Kia sorento every time -

The tax on the sorento will be a band lower than the miti, and it will do more MPG.

Plus you get more bells and whistles on the kia (unless high spec miti)
 
we have a 4 year old kia sorrento se , bought new , its great , have never reggretted having it , it has good fuel economy , drives superb and tows two horses plus ifor 505 like they aren,t there (2800 kgs maximum weight allowed )
 
It's the warrior model we've been looking at if this helps? The only thing that is making me lean towards the shogun sport is the fact that it is leather inside (handy against horse hair) and that the windows give me good view all round whereas I have trouble seeing out of the kia - even the panels between the windows (not sure what they are called!) are quite wide. I'm not sure how much I'd need to pay to get leather on the kia. I might go try out the kia again. The dealers were a bit rubbish near us as they said we could only have it for 20 mins and in that time both me and OH had to have a drive in it. I could do with having some lessons in a 4x4

I'd say Mitsubishi hands down. A guy on the yard has a 51 plate and it is lovely and tows very well. MPG isn't terrible as it's new

If you have £13k to spend, keep the clio, and buy a lorry with living. I've driven with a LWB Pajero and a trailer for 4 years now, and I would swap in a flash if I had this sort of budget to blow.

All will be a depreciating asset, but lorries hold their value well if looked after, as well as being far more practical when doing the shows
 
That is true - I spent £19k on my sorento and now kicking myself and wish I'd bought a lorry and either a small round around or even an old 4x4 so I could still tow.

Depends whether you are going out every week or not.
 
The clio is on it's last legs - every MOT it needs stuff doing that's a few £100 so I would have to buy another small car if I took the "lorry route". I do very few miles in the clio at the moment, just to work (10 mins drive away) because to be honest I don't trust it to go far or fast. I'm sure it's fine but I was in a big accident when I was younger and I'm useless with cars full stop (and a horrid passenger

) I think we'd use the 4x4 to get to the yard because it was awful during the floods, a real worry that we were going to get up there and in bad snow (not that we've had much of it for years) it's also very hard to get there. I'm not sure I'd use a lorry enough. I don't compete at present - I'm not up to scratch and the horse is too novicey as well, this might change next year though. I can see the advantages of a lorry, be good to transport more horses and make it easier for yard trips away to parks/shows/the beach etc.
Sorry for long post but thanks for the lorry idea...the thought of me driving a lorry as well...eeek...OH would have to do that!
