4x4 help please

I think you're right re commercial (but you'd have to double check) However the starting bid is £900 so think it'll probablty go for more. You're probably going to have to look for something older. We just got a K reg Daihatsu Fourtrak for about £600 - that'd do the job you want, isn't a commercial though (unless maybe you go for the van option), they will do the job though towing wise but they wouldn't be the best road car.

I have to disagree with that... Not all cheap cars are rubbish. Cars devalue quickly and the older ones with higher mileage are cheaper... As long as theyve been looked after. Plus i have a small car and its not that cheap. Im 19 im not going to have loads of money. But thankyou for your help and the links
Yes you are on the right lines just make sure you get someone to check things over mileage isnt something to worry about, but rust and major mecanical ills are I would avoid comercials as most have worked and done heavy towing!!! run as fast as you can from ex farm or builders vehicles!:D best if you could find a private 4x4 that has been someones second car for towing a caravan old but well looked after ....

Just be careful
I spent £1400 on a LWB Pajero, my fave car, and i have owned it just over a year. Its a great car, tows lovely and is spacious and comfy .............. However on the flip side i have spent over a grand on essential repairs as it turns out it hadnt been looked after by previous owner, insurance costs a bomb (even with 7years NCD) and it drinks diesel

I like this >>> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-MITS...7482374?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a6a0f2c06

What does everyone think? Its the swb as someone suggested its better, should be able to tow(i think), in my budget and best of all... I think its classed as a van/commercial??
It might be ok however it looks like a irish import they were very common over there are as tax on car type 4x4s is horendous .. if its local to you I would look at it before you bid pictures can make things look better than they are !!! my guess is it will make £1500 ish..If you have a mecanical dad or boyfriend you could get a bargain, otherwise I would get something from a dealer so there is a comeback if the thing is junk ....

Thanks guys. There are quite a few on private ads in my budget so id be more inclined to buy like that than ebay. Just used that to see if you all think it would do what i want :) i think a pajero is the way im going to go! Luckily dad knows a lot bout cars so il take him with me

I love my truck, it's a navara the new shape and had it 2 years now, with no problems. Very cheap tax (£130 for year!), not too bad in diesel (although my partners got an audi s4, so compared to that it's dirt cheap in fuel!) and is very reliable! The only problem is having to pay vat on top as it's classed as a commercial vehicle. I have been told the previous model is excellent too though so will probably be cheaper.

My partner wanted me to upgrade my car this year to a range rover (how lucky am I!!) but I said no! (yeah I'm mad!). Basically because I love trucks so much! You can put hay in the back and it doesn't get the cab covered and can sweep/hose the back out! I'v also had a large haylage bale on the back with no problems! They're great off road, although do have to be careful in snow/heavy rain as they're rear wheel drive and if there's no weight in the back the back end can swing out! I use mine to harrow my fields too! Great to tow with also, although with a trailer on the back, it is a long load!

Dog wise, they're great as you can't smell them in the cab! I'v got the back bit on mine. Plus if they're sick or anything you can just clean it out no problems! The only downer I'd give is that it's quite high for a rottie to get into, although most 4x4s are! They're such big, heavy dogs. I'v got two myself, the 3 year old has a lot of spring in his feet so can jump up from a stand still, although my 7 year old has to be lifted in! She's 10 stone so I struggle doing this! Plus you have to be so careful of their joints as they're such heavy dogs, although mine don't go out as often as they used to as they just roam our land now and pootle about. They're ace dogs though with firm discipline! I was tempted to take them both to Burghley with me, one on each side of the pram!! :)

Get a swb shogun. I've got a 1998 reg. It's a 2.8 dt. It's brilliant. If you look after the engine you'll get 200k from it. I've had freelander before and thy are shite. Mitsis

Thanks guys :) i think i will go for the mitsubishi... Anyone got any idea of average mpg for mitsubishi pajero or average fuel spend?
Strange you should say that bumblelion. I was thinking about getting the rotties in and out of a high car today... Hmmm

Be careful with old mitsis, they are the type of cars which get the hammering so will cost alot in essential repairs. Try get ot 'vetted' by mechanic. Freelanders are poor at towing unless u get an older one, but land rover have a reputation for un reliability. Toyotas are work horses and cheap, try the rav4. Daiatsu are ok but are like rust buckets and they are not made anymore... Also beware that Nissan terranos may look sound but underneath they rust very easily, it happened to our neighbour, they spend a small price for a terrano that wAs x reg and ideal for towing etc, but when it got to the garage Underneath was really rusty and was going to cost more than 2 grand to fix.
