Ok! So first off! passed my trailer test today! very very happy! but, my discovery is currently down the yard after a huge cock up with adrian flux so insurance was cancelled! so now i have nothing to tow with ;-) typical! I cannot find anyone that will insure me that isnt astronomical! were talking £1000-£3000! i cannot warant that amount for using it for towing every now and then!
Any recommendations? I have a 207 as my main car for commuting etc! or is there a 4x4 cheaper to insure than a disco?

Sorry can't help in regard to the insurance, other than Direct Line. Wanted to say well done on passing your trailer test.

I was first insured to drive our disco (for towing) when I was 18 and it only cost £50 extra to add me as a named driver as part of our multi-car policy with Admiral.

That disco was a 2.5 diesel which is now on the scrap heap in the sky, and it was replaced with a v8 petrol disco because we tow an enormous 3 horse trailer. My sister is now 19 and we have just been quoted £1200 to add her as a named driver :eek:.

So to answer your question it really depends what type of disco you have!

I found the cheapest was through churchill - online.

I had me as the main driver and then added my mum as a named driver (who has years of no claims) and it brought the quote down loads - not sure why and she never drives it but it worked out much much cheaper. Might be worth a try?

How long have you been driving? I'm paying over £1000 for my fiesta so £1000 for a 4x4 sounds ok to me! :o

having been driving for 3 years. See now the no claims business is what cocked it up last time. If i put my mum down as a named driver she has many years no claims, but not on the disco! you cannot use your no claims on two different vehicles ;-) I have a 57 plate 207 that costs me £800 a year fully comp. Im getting quotes for around £2000 upward on camparison sites. im getting bored of searching now..

i have just done a quote with my mum on to which has brought it down quite abit. Also do i need to inform my insurance of my extra category on my licence, i have done an extra test afterall!

Congrats you :)

No idea about insurance sadly as I am an old has been but try admiral multi car when you renew. Saves me a bomb on my two cars :)

iv just tried admiral multi car and it was quite good! think when my peugeot runs out in september thats the way to go!
