5 1/4 inch bits, do they exist?

I really need to get a full cheek French link snaffle in 5 1/4 as the 5 looked too tight, so I sold it

Now I think that the 5 1/2 has too much room either side and as the boys canines are coming through and the bigger bit looks like it might be too big, and potentially might rub the area where the teeth are coming through!

I can't find a 5 1/4 anywhere! so wondered if anyone knows where I can look?

vet came out to check his teeth today and said that they do look sore and I'd be best swapping down a size in bits.

NS do quarter sizes and myler are about 1/4 size bigger than they say they are I find.

Do you know what the myler links are like? Are they link a French link rather than an eggbut? They look very different to my current bit

I have a few, as I have an awkward Welshie, but they are hard to find! He's in mylers now for that reason.

It's a little roller barrel. I prefer them to other bits these days. Have my cob in triple barrel Mullen myler snaffle and I am really happy with it so just ordered another for my Welshie.

european makes are often in 5 1/4" as 13.5cms (I think) is equivalent.

Not always easy to find but would suggest that you take a tape measure with you to a tack shop with a good selection, you may find that some makes come up slightly big or small (I have 2 cottage craft bits that fit a 5 1/4" mouth well).

My horse is size 5 1/4 she has Jeffries bits, I don't know if they do a full cheek but they definately do size 5 1/4

I've never struggled to find any but we have a great tack shop Abbey and NS both do them for sure.

Sprenger also do 5 1/4, although I don't know if they do french links - they tend more towards the lozenge on the whole. And as catkin says, 135mm is a standard size for the continental brands, which is probably what you need. Good luck!

My mare is 5 1/4" and I can find her bits without too much trouble. Having said that my Myler is 5" because they come up big and my Bomber is 12.5cm (about 4 7/8") because of the shape of the mouthpiece. I always use a bit bank when I'm trying a new bit; de-risks the sizing issue no end.

Myler do french links too. The roller barrel is on the comfort snafffle. They have some on ebay
