Could I please ask peoples opinions on what they would think is a fair price to pay in rent for a 5 acre paddock with some post and rail fencing and some livestock fencing, a hose with a tap on for the water and that's it basically. Would probably be used for 3 native ponies.

Thank you ............

Where is this field - in Hampshire?? Has it got good acess to bridleways or is it situated of a main road for example? Do you have to poo pick/maintain or is that done for you (maintance wise?) Might help with prices.

Hi there, yes Hampshire, it's a private paddock owned by a family and situated alongside their gardens (huge house with a moat!). It is situated on a fairly quiet country lane which does get busy at peak times of the day due to being a commuter rat run. I will have to seek permission from the local farmer to ride over their land but have already had the provisional go ahead as the paddock owner is friends with said farmer. I have to poo pick and fix any broken fences.

I am so unsure of taking the step to move off a livery yard especially as this is purely a basic paddock with no shelter or stables but it's only 1 mile from my house and I so need to be somewhere where my children are welcome to run around and I am free to just mess about with my ponies rather that feel I have to perform a dressage test every time I get in the saddle ....

Thank again for helping :-)

i would think it will cost you around £20 per week per pony. so £60 per week equating to £260 per month. (tho dont know your area!) does the landlord know that you want somewhere that your children can run around and mess with ponies at any time of the day and esp at the weekend? see people with a huge moat/huge house might not want children running around at the weekend next to their garden, and they probably dont need the rental income. They would also have to have public liability for stock on their land. Have they suggested a rental price? have you had a chat with them regarding your children having free access to their ponies? Hope it works out for you but i would ask the questions before moving. no point moving if they want peace and quiet at the weekends, and privacy to have garden parties and BBQ's.

I have just found a 6/7 acre field to rent for my horses. Its on a quiet lane (access to houses on the lane only) No stables but we are able to erect them ourselves. Its £100 per month sole use
I'm in a fairly expensive area really aswell.

I was once told £100 per acre per year, so £500.... but that was a few years ago now.

I'd expect a price for the field, not per pony.

I used to pay £44 a month for a 3 acre field with no water, but a field shelter. Had to maintain fences myself (big job as they were all falling down), but at some points, had 4 ponies on the land. At other times none. Just duly paid the £44 a month and everyone was happy.
