Ok so Iv been for a chat with the people I want to rent the field from, and they want £100 a month for my pony and nothing for her companion at the moment.
However I get the impression they want another horse really for more money , and one of the reasons I want to move is to be on my own and do my own thing...
Do I offer them more money and ask if I can have it to myself?
Or just risk them getting someone else too further down the line...who could or could not be the kind of person Im trying to get away from?!

I'd speak to them urgently & ask them what figure they were thinking of for 'exclusive' use. If you can agree a sum, then get a contract drawn up asap so notice period, renovations (sheds/stables etc) repairs & rental dates are at least included, as well as deposit.

To add, think of the figure you would have to be paying at a DIY yard with same facilities as you would get at new yard & maybe offer this sum ££ ?

Up here, the yard next door - 2.5 acres, 2 pony boxes & a field shelter up the field - no electric & just a tap by the gate is £300 pcm with a max of 3 animals on it, preferred 2 tho.
Excellent hacking (no roadwork unless you want to).

Good luck :)

If they decided to bring another horse in, then could you arrange for your 2 (I presume the companion is yours, or you are happy with it?) to have turnout on their own?

If so then, how about leaving it as it is and waiting to see what they do?

In my experience, the turnout is always the issue and not really any other shared resource.... Just a thought.

Good luck as I know, from personal experience, how these issues cause so much worry ...., that is how I ended up with 2 horses and only wanted 1!!

ETS ...whoops you asked about cost??? Sorry I have no idea :(

Depends where you are really..

I have 4 stables, 40ft cabin and 6/10.5 acres in Devon for £240pcm

But!! I also have 5 stables in a big barn, concrete turnout yard, 5.5 acres and school for £400pcm in Leicestershire..

Thanks guys, think Ill pop in and have another chat with them.
Im thinking of offering £150 per month for my 14.2 cob and a pony for companion.
Field is approx 5 acres with a shelter, access to river for water.
Hopefuly theyll agree, really just dont want to move there then a few months later they decide to get someone else in, ideally want to be on my own.
Fingers crossed :)

We pay £500pcm for 4 acres, 3 stables & a field shelter.

Water, electric and maintenance included - that's in the south east.

I pay £125 per month for 3 acres, two stables, water and electricity in Devon. The farmer removes my muck heap and harrows, rolls and fertilises the field. I poo pick daily and maintain the fencing, it is completely DIY. I love it!

Just out of interest what would you expect to pay if you didnt have electricity , and just a river for water and a shelter rather than actual stables?

Last summer I was paying £165 for 4 stables, a tack shed (literally a shed!) and about 4 acres. No leccy and a natural spring / stream for water. I had to do all the fencing and 3 of the stables didn't have concrete floors, but really good for the money.

£80 - £100. Not having water could be a lot of hard work for you. We use head torches in the winter to bring the horses in so electricity is not too much of a problem, but it's handy for clipping, warming water and we have a heater in the tack room. Also, our electric fencing runs off the mains.
