We had one dog...then a friend of mine had puppies. I was there just after they were born, there once a week and there on the night they were due to go...My lab came home with me!
Year or so later one of mums friends dogs had pups-you guessed it, older sister got one.
Last year we(younger sister and I ) decided a lorry dog would be nice, saw an advert in the paper, nipped up and picked up a nice little terrier.
Now grandparents have decided their rising two year old (we got them....) is too much for them. We have had her at home and she is no real bother, so looks like she is number five!! FIVE DOGS???!
Oops.....and daddy said no after no. 1.....the rest just appeared!

I used to have four dogs - two greyhounds, two lurchers - never again!!!!! My mum did try to warn me that it wasn't any fun having that many, and she was right

Sounds like yours are spread about amongst your family though, which makes all the difference

Like you, we just kind of collected them.... it was always 'ah well, one more won't make any difference'

I have two Rotties and a Ridgeback. Couple of months ago the breeder of the rotties rang us and asked if we coiuld rehome one of Dexters littermates (he is our youngest and 12 months old) as her owner was no longer able to keep her. After much persuasion (of one kind or another!) OH relented and said we would take her. however they had already found her a good home elsewhere. I do think three is enough, although we have a large house and live in the country on a smallholding with acres of land for them to mooch about in. I'm afarid I am a sucker for a fourlegged sob story and can always find room for another dog, cat or horse. OH is not so soft and usually says no way!

You've got a bit of catching up to do - we have ELEVEN - and it's only a small house!!

We had 4 dogs when I was born and mum got into showing, that led to breeding. Once you're past 5 one more makes no difference!

I started with a JR - my first dog, had a litter, one came back, she stopped. Had a second litter from original bitch, kept the young man. Resisted the urge to keep when I bred my third litter. Mum signed the Ginger Ninja into my name because I was doing agility with him and he shows for me but not her. Got the 5th and final (for now) addition because she was the runt of the litter and a little fighter and pulled through. Couldn't part with her because she's so special.

Mine sounds pathetic,i have a jrt and a manchester terrier but we will be soon getting a third which is a .............................................................................................................BEAGLE!!!!!! yes not the easiest dog to have!!!!
I dog walk for a living so i have many dogs in my care every day and they all kinda feel like my own except i don't take them home (well sometimes when they board!)

*Sigh* One day...

If we move to a townhouse next year, there'll be no stopping me; the A-Z of dog breeds will be my oyster

(I told Mr. Prose that I plan to add a chicken coop as well, to which he called me a batty old bumpkin

I'm all for having lots of dogs, but if you want to take them places it's a total pain if you have loads!

We did a team chase a couple of weeks ago - 2 lorries, 4 horses, 4 riders, a few supporters and 11 dogs!!!!! They are all a bit mental and were a pain in the ass in their quantity!

I had 3 biggies in a small house, back down to 2 now, a GSD and Springer, its so much easier to walk in 1 'lot' again! If they are all well behaved though, and you have the time, patience and fit strong legs *lol*.......I cant see a problem with several, (or 11!

lol, we walk all together, thankfully all (but the terriers....) are well behaved so no chasing other dogs/annoying people save by shaking on them!

I'm lucky my 5 are generally fab when we go out, though I must fess up that Millie can't go far any more after her cruciate was operated on, she goes lame easily!

But 4 at agility comps tend to be very good and when we go on holiday we're very lucky that the caravan site we go on will allow us to take them (not had all 11 but I took 4 last year and my Auntie's had her 5 up there).
