5 point breastplates- sheepskin?

hey, just a quick question... anyone with a 5 point breastplate, how do you 'clean' the sheepskin? Mine always come back rather minging from hunting/competing and was wondering if anyone has found a best way of keeping it sort of nice?

I hand wash them... haven't risked putting through the washing machine yet
