I'm getting a horse vetted on wednesday, and have no idea whether to have a 5* or a 2* vetting. It'll be £190 for the vetting minus a blood test. However, he is worth £3500 and i only want to do riding club activities and the odd hack.. will it be more cost effective to just have a 2 stage?? I have arranged already to do a 5 stage, but after talking to people at my yard tonight i'm not sure what to do. What would you do ?

the blood test is optional - you can request it on a 2 stage or a 5 stage or not have it at all. i had it done, partly to see horse's reaction to needles!

i had a 5 stage recently on a horse i paid £3900 for - my insurance company insisted on it.

5 stage everytime :

(just had my new horse 5 stage vetted)......

after first horse not vetted and had all this after 18 months:

navicular
kissing spine
sacrioliac subluxation
djd in hocks
ringbone

mind you this was a 11 yr old NH rachorse / p 2 p

Hiya thanks for all your help, he's 10 and has just been used as an allrounder, bit of everything but i think i'm going to go with a 5* especially as his innoculations arent up to date! Not sure why the blood test isn't included, it's an extra £27 for one by the sound of it, so perhaps i mean that its around £163. Lol sorry, my first horse , i've only loaned before so im quite green to the whole vetting -ness! I know what it involves, why do half a job i suppose , spesh as it's my first

Wish him luck!
