Managed to get 5 minutes at the weekend to read my Show Jumping magazine which came through on friday. It was interesting to read about the 5* training programme that is available. I believe that you have to train with an accredited coach and work through all the elements of each stage. To me it sounded really good as each lesson would be working towards a definate goal, and for someone like me who lacks focus it would probably be useful. Any one done/doing it? It might be old news to regular Bsja peeps, but it was the first I had heard of it.

I am looking to do this. You have to work with an accredited coach and they will sign off your log book to say you have achieved the required level and jumped the required number of double clears (at the higher stages)

You can enter at any stage but you have to answer the written questions correctly at the level below e.g. if you enter at 3 you have to answer the questions for 1* and 2* and get them signed off as well.

I skimmed through it...but was a little surprised that the standards seemed to be fIrly low

I think one of the practical achievemnets to attain 4* accreditation was to jump 4 DC's at 1.10m in a year, and for 5* it was 4 DC's at 1.20m

That just seems a little too achievable for what in effect is a system being put in place to go from grass roots leve to international level

To achieve 4 DCs at 1.10m for me would take years!! I feel its a bit ridiculous as you could ride the ride of your life and still have a pole. You could sit on an amazing school master and get your 4 DC like that and be rubbish.

Yes, been to one training session but it poured with rain through the whole lesson so didn't get much out of it

Got another one in July with my instructor who is a BSJA accredited coach

Ive done a few - with my normal trainer and I think its quite fun that you have something physical to work towards. The written stuff is a good idea too. I enjoyed it and so did everyone doing it.

No, not going to do it. The lady I train with isn't accredited and I once went to the bronze level training (back in the day) and the guy just stood in the middle and smoked fags - so not that impressed.
