How much do you guys do in your first season with a 5 year old? This won’t be his principle job, he may also do some eventing next year.

I did up until Christmas then maybe one at the end of the season, then did a lot more the following season, I usually Stayed till change of horses then headed home as I thought a full day was too much unless it was an exceptionally quiet day then would stay longer.
it was a lot cheaper then and you could pay for half a day, these days a cap will cost upwards of £65 per day so quite expensive for just half day plus most hunts only allow a limit of 4/6 visiting days so again it depends whether you subscribe or pay just for 10 days. hunting certainly helped my young horse gain confidence and find her feet and balance.
