What would be the preference?

Orbit seems like he is quite a hot horse so far! He is out with just a lightweight no fill but personally I find them quite sweaty? He hasnt been sweaty yet but I do need a bigger size for him immediately.
Would a 50g at least wicker away any sweat?

What is your preference??

Sorry if it sounds silly but BB was a cold horse , he woulda needed a 200 in 10degrees lol 😂
I think Lari is out in a 50g when its cold as I don't think the YO at retirement does rain sheets. But its only overnight at the moment, when it gets cold in the day in winter they nearly all have rugs on. Its a juggling act with Lari who sounds a bit like Orbit insomuch as he gets very hot. So when its cold at night its much warmer during the early morning and then if he feels hot he starts tearing his rugs.

Well I will definitely recommend the Shires Typhoon with neck attachment, no fill turnout!.

Awful heavy rain forecast, so I put it on the young TB on Tuesday Eve with the intention of swapping it to a dry one after work last night and was thrilled and quite surprised that it he was bone dry underneath it.

I thought for the budget range of rug that it is, it wouldn't have held that rain off him.
I have this!!! It's a fabulous rug for best part of £40, hasn't leaked for us yet either!!! We don't have the neck bit but its still great.

The first couple days if rain last week my Arab boy was in a 0g 600 denier and I was so glad it's still waterproof, it keeps him warm enough when its windy and a little rain. I moved him to a medium as he did start to get cold.

(I'm waiting on a rug coming that's 100g) as I've only one rug that actually fits him. The others are too big - he has about 7 rugs and 2 that are the right size 🙈

If I rug, I use 1200 denier lined 0g rugs. They are both a bit hot running, and they only get them on if it's freezing, wet and windy! But I don't need to keep them clean etc, as they are pampered lawn mowers, but that type could be handy for daily use

I use a 50g Shires as a lightweight turnout as I find it much better (less sweaty and more waterproof) than a no fill, but it doesn't have the same 'snug' feeling as other 50gs that feel like they offer more warmth. if I feel like she needs a little warmth I switch into a 50g amigo, which is a great rug but i wouldn't use it instead of a no fill as she would be too hot!

The Derby House 50g is also a good no-fill alternative, I have one with a neck which is great for crappy but warm weather

i have a 50g derbyhouse and agree, very lightweight but not sweaty!

I love my 0 fill rugs, I think the better ones don’t leak.
None of mine leak and my horse never feels sweaty, I’m more of an under rugger though so if I doubt he had a waterproof fly sheet.
I just find them totally different. If it were a bit cooler he’d be cold in a 0 and fine in a 50 but if a bit warmer he’d definitely sweat in a 50g
I don’t see that as an either or.
So, anyway! At this time of year I’d go 50g as it’s getting cooler.
I had a look recently though and didn’t see a huge amount to choose from.

I’ve got two no fills, two 50gms and a 200 gram turnout rugs with detachable necks. Plus 50, 100, 200, 300 & 400 liners.

Personally I’d get both.

Mine live out and if get a week of rain I tend to find rugs get damp through when off horse whilst riding. And can take a days to dry hanging in a barn once off horse if it’s still raining.

a good 0g with a 50g liner! i couldn’t decide what to go with this morning, then thought sod it they’re fat anyway and chucked them out naked😂

i did feel guilty this morning when i realised it had dropped to 3 degrees overnight and my fully clipped ponies hadn’t been tucked up in their stable rugs, but they certainly didn’t care🤦🏼‍♀️😂
They won't die that's my motto 😂

It's weird with Arab's I have a very fine coated wimp that hates rain and I have a much tougher arab that doesn't care about rain at all.

I find most Arab's are ok in cold dry weather they just don't like wet windy conditions.

We have 3 TB's between us, and one is always a hot horse... until he gets cold. It's quite a odd - he radiates heat, is always warm amd snuggly, and is warmer to touch than the other two - but he really feels the cold, gets chilly easily and needs more rugs than the other two. It's like his thermostat is turned up, so he can't conserve heat somehow. Radiators on and windows wide ospen :)

Is the shires Typhoon the one with Surcingle clips at the front instead of buckles? My cousins pony has a shires 0g with surcingle clips at the front and it’s better than my shires 0g highlander.
I do like the shires rugs for spare if other ones are really wet. They are cheap and cheerful but would likely get the highlander with a bit of fill as they seem to cope with the rain better.

Yep that's the one! Surcingle clips! Highlander is for chunkier horses x
