6-7" Chopped Hay, any good?

I buy a years supply of wrapped hay at a time, this year my supplier says has been bad for hay, he has haylage (not really suitable for my hindgut problem horse or the laminitic cobs) or has wrapped chopped 'nearly' hay, cut to 6/7" long (about a day off fully dried hay), has anyone ever fed this, or knows anything about it please?
