6 months ago I went to go and see this little scrap of a baby ex-flat racer for loan:-

I liked him and thought he was worth a punt. He didn't cost anything and I hoped a project would get me over the death of my beautiful Vay.

6 Months on and he is still with me. He has come on beyond all recognition and thanks to the wonders of Gavin Scofield (Osteopath), Alfa A Oil and me spending all hours riding and caring for him..here he is :)

He is still growing! He also will not properly fill out for a while due to being raced so young.

More before an afters :D

I'm going to buy him soon. I just wanted to show how something so average looking can turn in such a short time into something very useful. More people should give TB's and in particular Ex-Racers a chance because there are some such quality horses underneath what you often see. I could have spent ££££'s and not got a horse that is so willing and lovely and talented too!

I've seen some gorgeous ex-racers on this forum belonging to other people and it makes me really proud :). Not saying it's easy to take on a racer but they can be worth every time and penny spent on them.

More pics because he is soooo pweetty :D :)

What a massive difference, hes stunning. Well done you :D
ps, I hope the price you pay for him reflects what he was like and not what hes like now!!

Big improvement

Hes lovely!

I totally agree, people should stop stereotyping ex race horses, treat them as individuals.

Most are great horses with lots of potential.

:D Glad you all like my post, thank you :)

Louby - Myself and his owner agreed a fair price before I got him 'Just in case' ;)

chestnuttymare (great name btw!) - He turned 5 April/May time I believe, so still a bubba.

5??? He looks SO balanced!! What a lucky horse to have found someone willing to spend the time on him! And, obv, lucky you to find such a wonderful horse!!

Youve got a real nice looking one there, well done!!! :)

You have turned him from a highly fit lean racer into a nicely covered and quality looking riding horse. He looks stunning.

Have to be honest Firewall, I read this post expecting to see a picture of a lean unmuscled horse turned into a fat unmuscled horse with an owner proudly thinking that the horse was in better condition than when they bought it. How wrong could I be? What fantastic condition you have him in for a 5 year old flat racer. He's a picture, you deserve him and he's lucky to have found you.

He's looking totally stunning, well produced Firewell, as always!! Good luck in all you do with him, such a pretty boy, especially happy for you after all you've been through lately, you deserve all the good times you got coming to you xx

Thanks :) I feel really proud Reading the replies! :D

Greymare - thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find your perfect horse v v soon! Xx

Just posted a message to a thread about 'are ex-racehorses all nutters' (!!!) or something similar. Should have directed them to this. When are people's attitudes going to change - no matter how many are posting these positive threads about ex-racehorses there are still so many thinking that they are a separate breed to the 'normal' horse! (sorry, bit of a mini rant!) have seen far worse behaved cob, ish, wb, part bred, etc.

I have 2 and they are very different but they do like the easy life! Have the most amazing manners and are very affectionate. Does that not sound like the perfect horse?! Your boy looks lovely and you are obviously having a lot of fun with him - enjoy.
