I'm so pleased to see that the BSJA has just announced that there will be a championship for 6 year-old SJ horses at HOYS.
There was an outcry when the title was deleted from the programme - good to see a positive response.

hope it is well supported now they have put it back. drives me mad when people complain something has been taken away and then dont support it when it is reinstated.

it is absolutely fantastic that it is back there, having competed in the final in 2007, i would love to be able to do it again.

however.... the format to qualify has changed;

previously u jumped the 6yr old series and got 10 points for every dc and the top 24 at the end of the season qualified for HOYS-but some people thought this was not a good thing for the young horses to have to travel around the country to try and qualify.

then last year if u jumped 1 triple clear u qualified for the final........at scope.

now u jump a triple clear which still qualifies u for scope but then the top 18 from scope qualify for HOYS.

for sure its personal opinion but i think its another money spinner for scope. they want to get every1 there and then spread the classes out over the week so u have to stay all week and spend lots of money coz lets face it it isnt a cheap show. for instance the blue riband final last year had its 1st qualifier on the monday, the 2nd on the friday and the final on saturday or sunday i think, anyway meaning u have to stay all week which i a) dont want to stay at that show for any longer than i have to and b) cannot justify either taking enough horses to make it feesable or taking one and leaving a yard full at home for a week with no work.

ok have slightly digressed to ranting about scope, sorry, what im trying to say is it is great for it to be back but i dont agree with the format in which to qualify.

I get what you mean about scope

I hope its consistancy which wins places at scope though over a flukey high placing, as 18 seems alot from one class so I presume it'll be over 2 or 3?

I think they are also taking top 6 from 6 year old championship at addington young horse show. Sure I read it somewhere to make the numbers up to 24.

Just checked the bsja website and it says 6 from 6 year old british/foreign bred championships. So I guess thats 3 from each.
