6 year old rescue pony

opinions on what to do with this, please dont just say go back to basics, this pony seems to have so many bad habits and iv only handled it once!

She is unbroken and appears not to have even been taught to be lead properly! owner cannot manage her as she drags her round like a rag doll and owner is an older lady.

She has sent the pony away to be broken and it came back in the same state as it went. Owner tried to back her herself this summer, had some on the kids on her. she will let them sit on her but if asked to walk will buck them off.

iv offered my help as this poor lady is clearly at a dead end with the pony. i done some join up with her at the weekend, when i discovered she wont lead properly, so obiviously going back to basics is the only option. but to teach a baby that knows no better is one thing, but a 6 year old which has clearly got away with pushing people around is another!


pony is having back check for owners peace of mind, so what are your thoughts.

I got a unhandled mare at the age of 11, she didnt take lon to turn around. But she was the opposite, if you so much as touched her she flinched away and kept rearing when leading. Took alot of time and paitence but weve ot her to the point now where she lunges/longreins and stands in the field to be groomed and loves her hugs. Am thinking of backing her next year but i dont think shes ever going to be suitable for me as shes very sharp and strongwilled, and all of that has taken 1 and a half years!

I got Cop when she was abt 10 yrs old. YO bought her off the hills when she was 5, halter broke her then left her. She was coralled to have her feet done and that was it. Apart from the odd catching isse (grrrrrrr) she turned around realy quickly - went from rearing and throwing herself on the ground to walking nicely in about a month. The rolling was harder to stop, took me a while to figure it out lol but rearing stopped very quickly. Barging was stopped by a few hard pokes from my showing cane - I know shes small but being squashed into a wall by a pony isnt fun....

TBH I think most problems were solved by frequent (daily), consistant handling :)
