My mate who part loans Baron is taking him to the Prestige finals. It is going to take 3hrs in the horsebox to get him there. Then if she gets placed the first day she will also compete the following day.

Baron has only travelled locally before (well he did come from ireland, but im talking competition wise) and this is the first big comp he has done. Now I am thinking that after a 3hr trip there, doing his test, then 3 hrs back that he wont be up to much the following day if he has to travell 3 hrs to get there again.

He is fab at travelling but can get a little tense when he gets there. I am thinking it would be best if he stayed over at the venue (or somewhere close) for the night, but what if he doesnt get through and we waste the money? Or do you usually pay on the day?

I really just dont think its right to travel him so far and expect him to be at his best on the second day.

Opinions please?

Can't he stay overnight in the lorry or prehaps they have stables at the venue? It normally costs between £5 and £15 pounds for the stable ( at driving shows any way).

Surely if you book somewehere for him to stay overnight and then he doesnt get through it will only cost you the same as another 6hrs worth of diesel, which you would spend taking him home and then back again????

He cant stay in the lorry as its only 3.5t and he would not be able to lie down in it or turn around properly.

I didnt realise it was only that much for a stable. I have been asking my mate to look into it as I didnt want him going all that way twice in two days. Shes paying everything as she wants to take him so I am not concerned about the money, just whats best for my horse. We can stay in my little lorry

Rent a stable overnight either at the venue or closeby. If you contact the event secretary, they normally have details of local yards that offer this service, if no onsite stabling is available.

Showjumpers quite often go to two different shows with long journeys on consecutive days and 3 hours isnt considered terribly far. But if there is overnight stabling on offer they nearly always seem to take it. It will be cheaper and less tiring, and you will have more fun if you stay the night in your box at the venue too!

Horse Stay in the lorry? who does this?
Just book a stable! If he doesnt get through then just come home or stay over and come back steadily the next day!
WIll prob only be 30 quid for a stable so cheaper than diesel.

errrrr me!!!!! I do have the excuse that Inky is only 30" tall and there is plenty room!!!!! This is in a 505 Ifor trailer aswell!!!! I wouldnt even consider it for anything larger though. It is beneficial for me because not only does it save me money

, but inky doesnt get stressed. In rented stables the doors are always "normal" size and he cant see out and gets very upset at this!!! We have the trailer adapted so he can see over the partitions and its like a mini stable!!
