My friends beautiful boy has gone lame while out on a hack. Vet has scanned and said inflamed tendon sheath with two other areas of concern. It’s a very big worry. Could be just a sprain? Some positive vibes please for my lovely friend.

A friend of mine hunted for several seasons on an ex racer with a leg as big as a fence post. They can recover from really serious tendon injuries but it takes a long, long time. My understanding is that the most successful protocol these days will be box rest with short walks in hand several times a day, followed by a very careful return to easy ridden exercise and then turning away, preferably in a herd in a big field, for up to a year.

The worry is the extensiveness of the damage and whether there is an underlying cause for it other than a one-off injury. I'll cross my fingers for her.

He’s such a sweet horse and would cope but it’s still miserable for them. He’s in full livery so at least there provision for it.
