Hi All, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to offer some advice.
I have a 7.5 Ford Iveco 1999 horsebox. It is in absolute immaculate condition and it is a lovely little box. It is an older style Oakley.
It has just passed it's MOT and my plan is to put it up for sale as we no longer use it.
My mechanic did say however that the underneath of the box had started to rust and could probably do with either shotblasting or wire brushing and resealing before being marketed as it would affect the valuation. He isn't touting for work as this is something he doesn't do and the video I have seen does seem to confirm his opinion.
I have contacted a local mechanic who has given me a quote. My question is should I proceed to spend approx £600/700 on wire brushing it and resealing or not? Will perspective purchasers be put off by it or just accept it's an older box which has a 12 month MOT?
Im hopefully going to sell it for between 16-18k if that helps.
Thank you all in advance x

Hi, I've had no response to my message so thought I'd give it a bit of a 'bump'.
Basically is it worth my while wire brushing and resealing the underneath of my lorry even tho I'm going to sell it? It has just been plated for the next 12 maths and passed.
Many thanks x

Just had a word with my OH. (HGV mechanic for about a gillion years). He said not to bother. Choice is yours of course. With a vehicle of that age, there is bound to be some surface rust on the cross members. If the garage was not happy, they would not have issued a pass.

Thank you so much for your reply. I took your husbands advice and cancelled the work. If it gets flagged up during any inspections I can get it sorted then prior to any sale. Many thanks x

I did my lorry partly myself. We don't have a pit, so 3 days lying underneath it with a wire brush, hammer and paint scraper removing the rust. A mechanic friend then sprayed the underneath with waxoyl. Each year I re-do it with cans of waxoyl - I just brush off any dirt and touch up any areas that need it. I stink by the end, but I intend that my lorry never needs welding. I'll be gutted if it does!
