Could I? / Should I?

Not something I'd normally even consider, but the roadworks and contraflows on the alternative route look horrendous, and will add up to 40 mins each way on to a 2 hour each way journey. I've looked on the website, and couldn't see anything about animals or horseboxes. I drove through in my car a couple of weeks ago, and it was a nice straight easy road.

Anyone done it?

For what it’s worth, it’s only about 15 mins drive from mine to there on a quiet weekend day, so I’ll usually just leave the windows closed and open on the other side if we’re going on a good distance after the tunnel- I do drive through it myself daily for work also, and can’t smell any fumes or similar in the car.

I used to regularly take mine through both the mersey and conwy tunnels. Its not ideal but not really a problem unless you intend on taking them through multiple times a day, everyday.

I used to go through regularly in my 3.5t no issues. Normally a much quicker route than through Newcastle.
Remember to pay after, the new system is awkward.
