7.5t/HGV Mechanic/Garage Labour Costs

£55 plus VAT, may be £60 now - excellent mechanic but not a posh workshop so keeps costs down that way. Interestingly some of the big commercial garages near us (South Central) don't charge huge hourly rates. I think the car garages are often higher.

I have no idea what my mechanic charges for labour. I just call him up & he comes & does whatever job I need doing & charges whatever. He seems very reasonable though. He's a mobile mechanic & when I telephone he comes as soon as. I never have any problem getting him to come, more than I can say about some mechanics I've used in the past.

Most will put Labour hours at a given rate on the invoice. And parts costs. So you see the hourly rate.

Is that a main dealer?

No, they are our engineers in a bus company - but we will assist out of area operators needing assistance as we are cheaper than the likes of Volvo and Scania. It’s also the rate that is paid by third party insurers when we are recovering our costs.

Depending on area, facilities and specialism, anything from £50 to £85 per hour (plus VAT) is reasonable.

Hampshire area, my dad was charging £80 an hour I believe for HGV/ Horsebox etc. Had his own workshop facility with ramps etc so could do most things and was overrun with work.

Interestingly, I work for an ag machinery dealer and we are £120+vat per hour plus travel!
