just been out and done my niught time skip out and it is now -7 and all the automatic water drinkers have frozen in the stables. I have had to carry about 30 gallons of water from the kitchen to the stables so that the horses can have something to drink. Luckily my OH always comes out to help with the night time skip out - oh and my lurchers and cat join in to rat so he was able to carry as well. it took me 4 hours to thaw all the taps out this morning - but guess what i will have to do again tomorrow. And they are all wrapped up and insulated as are all the pipes - just doesn;t seem to work in these temperatures.
I have had to give up trying to break the ice in the field troughs as it is now just ice and no water so i think horses will have to be out for less during the day or just do without water in the field for a few hours.
