7 Days which hope to put a stop to puppy farming

Until it becomes illegal to have puppy "outlet" stores and people can be made to buy from a breeder ,not a store, puppy farms wil flourish.A poll states that one in five pupies bought came from such places.
And until the KC realises WHY so many crossbreds are around..to use a bitch every season, one registered one not.. ad infinitum, and discontinues having such breeders on it`s Assured Breeder Scheme things will stay just the same.

What we need is a campaign to make people who would be the customers of these places realise what they are doing.
Unfortunately most people only buy a puppy every 10 or more years and forget any sense at the sight of a cute puppy.

How about a dodgy car sales pitch with obvious cut'n'shut vehicles with "would you buy a car from this man? So why buy a puppy from someone like him?"

Preaching to the choir.

Yes and no, remember the Lisa Welch thread? that threw up a lot of victims, Im not going to say this video will change the world overnight but if it makes people aware that is a good thing. I like the idea of them being proactive and it might even reach the eyes and ears of someone who can actually do something about it.

Just read the thread below where someone was getting £3500 for french bulldog puppies, as long as people are prepared to pay prices like that, or any large sum then puppy farming will exist. It's a business and presumably if you have the right breeds then it's a licence to print money. How often do we hear how much someone has paid as if somehow that gets them a better dog? If puppies had no value beyond what it cost to breed them then the farming would stop.

The Dog Advisory Council has released its recommendations for breeders.

If some of these were adopted and actually enforced it would make a big difference, and they might just be able to get the message over to the general public a bit more. However some of the recommendations are a bit daft (e.g. not using a dog at stud until 2 years) and the inbreeding co efficient suggested would mess up the future for quite a few rare breeds. And the dog press already seem unhappy with the idea of a maximum hip score, as no doubt will be many breeders.

MM I saw that this morning on fb, its a great idea if it can be policed, they might have to chuck everything including the kitchen sink at it but it could work. If only the KC would grow some teeth.

I know what you mean about people boasting about how much they paid for their dog:eek: Another thing is people wanting a pup now if they cant get it from a reputable breeder or go on a waiting list they will go anywhere to get their pup. We all know what happens to peoples brains when they see pups they go to mush:D and until we can instil in people some common sense its going to go on putting money in puppy farmers and bybs wallets.

There is a pet shop near Dunmow, calleed Bluegate pets and it advertises puppies. I had to go and look the other day. In their favour the pups had a nice room to be in and were well looked after, on a minus who on earth would buy a pup from a place like that? They were expensive too, so you aren't saving money by doing it. They had Yankee Doodles (I didn't see what they are in RL), chi chows and various other mongrels.
Very odd, when I think how we looked for a pup, went on a waiting list and were vetted by the breeder it is a different world out there.

We have nine dogs four JRT mother two of her offspring and her grand daughter, and five collies oldest I bred next came from a highly respected sheep dog trailer, next from another trailing farmer friend, other two from snowdonia with and saw their mothers and highly respected fathers and this years was Less than £300 with a pedigree to die for, believe lots of breeders charge way too much for puppies which leads to over breeding.
