7 Months old - hows he looking?

This is Milo at 7 months old - after honest opinions on how he's looking. He lives out 24/7 with haylage, stud balancer and sugar beet. He is rugged as he was getting a bit skinny for my liking and there's not a huge amount of shelter in the field.

Also how big do you think he's likely to make, mom is 15'1 cob (her mom was 16'2ish), sire is 15'3 tb however at 7 months old he is 13'2 at the withers and 14hh at his butt!!

You do know you are not allowed to advertise direct onto the forum, even if you have paid HHO. ? Lordy, there are enough adverts to the right, without adding them on here too !

You are allowed to include a link to a H&H advert within your signature.

I haven't had a foal before so am unsure how they should be looking at this time of year and whether I'm being my usual worrier in that he's a bit skinny (I do know he shouldn't be podgy tho)

Ty, thats the sort of height I'm expecting given his current size - we didn't expect he'd be more than 15'2 ish given his parents heights but he just keeps growing!!

eeh? You on the right post SM?

Looking good but the haynet would give me nightmares, sorry. Size wise, have you done the string test as that's seems the best indicator rather than us just guessing? I always do from fetlock to elbow then swivel it, only ever been out by about an inch, no more.

Could I ask what the string test is please? Ive not heard of it before. thanks

No I haven't - I thought they had to be a year old to use that?

Why does the haynet give you nightmares? I had tied it up as high as is possible and used a small hole one - he doesn't paw at anything and I wouldn't leave him unsupervised with it. (Just curious as would hate to do anything that would risk him)

Was just replying to the people who are asking what Shysmum is on about.

I can't see the sig one as I have them switched off, the repetitive picture sigs just bore me and take up too much screen space... I can just see the advert in the column to the right.

It's an old method of estimating height. Take a length of string, hold one end on the fetlock and pull it taut upwards to the point of the elbow with the other hand. Hold the elbow end in place, then turn the fetlock end up a half circle to stretch above the withers and where it ends up is the height horse will make. It's usually accurate to within an inch however 'huge' it will seem!

Any haynet, small holed or not gives me nightmares with a foal/youngster, doesn't matter how high or well they're tied, it's just too easy for them to get strung up in it, I've seen it happen too many times.
