And it is so uncalled for. I'm sure Woodgreen, or another rescue would have taken them direct from the breeder.
 
People, eh? Cruel, ignorant, irresponsible and cowardly all at once. Latest dog was dumped in a bog hole with her 5 siblings, all suffering with giardia, in January. Pure chance that they were found at all; left to die, presumably after not selling as xmas presents. Would love 15 minutes in a closed room with whoever did it.
 
Today is just overall sad vibes for me re animals. I saw a dead cat in the road on my way into work today, which was sad. It got hit. That's a chance you take with an indoor/outdoor cat, sad as it may be, and hopefully cat had a nice life frolicking outside until it came to an end.

In the case of the cat, it is terribly sad, but I'm more "ok" with it. This outright dumping, starving, abandoning stuff makes me both sad and furious. I am often tempted to check trash on the side of the road at times.

I do know someone that ended up with a really nice dog. They found him tied to a post on the side of a road, just abandoned.

Another was left tied to the shelter gate, which at least they got the dog there I guess? Both great dogs (with the same owner), and one is a fine example of her breed with some training and good with people. I just wish people could be more decent about things!
 
People are so cruel. 😞

The Romanian rescue that one of mine came from found a gorgeous young dog that had been driven 1/2hr up a quiet Forrest road and tied to a tree. There are bears in the area. It wouldn’t have stood a chance. It had been there two days without food or water (a passerby reported it but then couldn’t remember exactly where) but it was so happy and waggy to see her rescuers. I mean why tie her up?? At least give her a chance to find food/escape harm.

I worked beside someone who had 2 adult dogs that she's had since pups afaik. When she fell pregnant (planned) she decided the dogs had to go.

The local rescue was, according to her, full so her husband drove them out to a field, threw a ball then drove away as they chased that car.

She actually came into work and told that story. I'm sure you can imagine my reaction and what our relationship was like going forward... absolute scum.

How anyone could do that let alone a "civilised" person who'd had those dogs all of their lives. I really hate people a lot of the time...

That's absolutely terrible. Do you know if the dogs were rescued and ok?

And how on earth would you think that was such an ok thing to do that you'd mention it at work?!

No idea. I phoned local sspca to ask if two dogs had been reported/brought in and told them the tale but they hadn't picked anything up.

I don't think I've ever wanted to punch anyone at work as much as I did that day (don't make a habit of wanting to beat up pregnant women!). Just utter scum

That must have been 20yrs ago and I'm still angry that one of my friends is still friends with her.

When I was about 15/16 my friend at schools boxer got caught by the dog next door. Her dad took the pups and drowned them before weaning and the poor bitch howled for days. This was circa 2006 so not exactly the dark ages, I couldn't believe her family were just so open about what they'd done either to the extent their teenage daughter was so open about it. I remember going home and telling my parents who were absolutely horrified too. Her dad was a fireman which for some reason made it all the more sickening to me at the time.
 
Years ago, my mother was driving along a lane not far from home with no houses for a good mile either way on a dark winter evening, and a little pup wandered accross the road in front of her. She picked it up, took it home, reported it to the police and by the next morning was absolutely adamant that the pup was not going back to whoever tried to claim it!! Nobody did and the animal grew into a thoroughly unpleasant small dog, ruling the house, who mum, used to big dogs, spoilt horribly 🙄
 
When I was a child my grandparents had a smallholding and several cats. It was absolutely standard to drown litters of kittens at birth. The cats were never neutered. I knew about this as a tiny child to the point that I accepted it as a necessary evil (because that's what I was taught). As I grew up I realised the awfulness of it, but in those days (over 50-60 yrs ago, god help me) it was pretty standard practice in the countryside I think. You would have hoped that this awful practice had died out, but I doubt it. People like this think differently about animals - I don't think they see them as sentient, with feelings and pain. They are the same as inanimate objects - to be dumped without a thought if they become inconvenient.

My grandparents (well, grandma) was the same or they'd set the terrier on them 🙈

Mum used to try and stealthy capture the females and take them to cat rescue to be neutered.

When I was old enough I'd try and find the kittens first and move them and their mum (with my mums help) into an old workers cottage to keep them safe. We'd feed/worm them and my mum.would get female dressed. I'd rehome the kittens via my work as we had an internal intranet and it was a big company. So they all went to vetted homes.

As we managed to get all the females done the kittens stopped eventually, although being a farm new cats arrived all the time.

They'd let litters live sometimes when their cats were getting older. I tamed a lot of the kittens and my grandparents treated them "pet" ones really well, and named them etc. So strange th4 disconnect between those cats and all the ones they/she killed 😩
 
Only about 8 years ago the corn merchants my sister worked for were going to drown some kittens. Sister took them the nearest RSPCA rehoming centre. Not sure about mum cat ... I was really surprised when she told me, I thought that sort of thing had gone out with the dark ages.
